Steroid injection booked for both knees

X_ray confirmed I have arthritis in both knees. I am 56 years old. GP booked me in for both knees to be injected. Warned me effect could only last max 6 months before needing doing again.

From experience of plantar fasciitis I knew eventually the injections won’t work.
The plan is to go on a weight loss journey to take the strain off my knees. I have at least 6 stone to lose.

Once had a bad reaction to a steroid injection in my shoulder and needed morphine for 3 days .Had a rotated cuff injury . I’m a little apprehensive.

Any positive stories of knee injections? What can I expect?

I've had a few now in one knee due to arthritis - started off making quite a difference and only needed it every year or two. Meant I could continue with my running over the last 8yrs or so. Age 48 and 14yrs since first diagnosed, last few I've had haven't had any effect at all and I've now asked to be referred for surgery - not sure if a full replacement just yet but that's probably on the cards.

I found the Steroid injections very effective but very short lived( 2 weeks totally pain free and then another 2 or so less pain) after that back to square one but I don't just have arthritis I also have meniscus tears.

I had hyarulonic acid injections two weeks ago and have yet to notice any improvement but have read they can take quite a while to work. Am getting desperate now and considering having the arthroscopy surgery.

Being honest, makes your eyes water a little when done and then took a couple of days to settle. It was sometimes like a little fluid lump where injected that dispersed.
I do remember once or twice being able to go for a run a day or so afterwards

I've had 2/3 injections in one knee last one only lasted a couple of months which was extremely disappointing am now Having oxygen therapy in a decompression chamber which is a huge improvement.

Dh has had them, and the relief was short lived. The hydroluronic acid injections otoh have been amazing for his very severe arthritis (first offered full knee replacement 10 years ago) and his surgeon says they can just keep doing them unlike the steroids

I also have a meniscus tear and some arthritis in one knee. Because the tear was quite bad and my knee kept giving way, I had an arthroscopy. Now, over 2 years later, my knee doesn’t give way anymore which is a relief, and I don’t have as much pain, but I can’t kneel on that leg and it creaks and crackles a lot especially when coming downstairs.

I had huge success with a steroid injection in my knee at about the same age.

I have no cartilage left in my knees-can feel the bone grinding on bone and I was struggling to even step up a kerb-it has been pain free for years now!

Good luck!

Limited
Success for me .

My knee though is still inflamed and swollen so not sure how effective it was due to that

Had it in July . Now in pain again and the swelling is. An issue .

I find driving is difficult.

I'm 50 . I darent run ....I think running might have exacerbated the issue .

Oh and I did t find the injection painful. Like any other jab !
