He is covered in spots mainly on his face and legs!!!
Is this just a normal rash? Should I be worried? Ds1 had his booster at the same time, but no spots on him.

What side effects have been reported with this vaccine?
Fever is the most common side effect, occurring in 5%-15% of vaccine recipients. About 5% of persons develop a mild rash. When they occur, fever and rash appear 7-10 days after vaccination. About 25% of adult women receiving MMR vaccine develop temporary joint pain, although this symptom is related to the rubella component of the combined vaccine. Joint pain only occurs in women who are not immune to rubella at the time of vaccination. MMR vaccine may cause thrombocytopenia (low platelet count) at the rate of about 1 case per 30,000-40,000 vaccinated people. Cases are almost always temporary and benign.

More severe reactions, including allergic reactions, are rare. About one person per million develops inflammation of the brain, which is probably caused by the measles vaccine virus.

If my child develops a rash after getting the MMR vaccine, is he contagious?
Transmission of the measles vaccine virus does not occur from a vaccinated person, including those who develop a rash. No special precautions (e.g., exclusion from school or work) need be taken.

Hi, My DS2 got the most amazing rash about 10 days after MMR; bright red from head to toe (I think a classic measles rash is described as looking like red paint has been 'poured' over the child -- well that's what it was like!). He felt a bit uncomfortable but not unwell and it cleared up in a couple of days (we gave him some piriton in meantime). I did take him to the doctors just to check it was OK though and nothing catching. Also managed to clear school playground when friend shrieked 'what the hell is wrong with your child???' (despite him being hidden under blankets, buggy hood etc.!) Does your DS seem unwell at all? It is worrying, isn't it?

He seems well apart from the spots. He has been a bit drooly, but I asasume that may be because he is teething. His appetite is good. I felt like this when ds1 had his first vaccine. Ds2 seems to react to illnesses and jabs a lot more than ds1.

Yes, my DS2 is one of though kids who goes incredibly hot / red etc., at everything! It sounds like your DS is OK in himself, so I'm sure you don't need to worry, but you could always give your doctor a call if you are an (over)anxious mother like me!

I'll just keep my eye on him. Cheers for the replies.
