Has anyone driven themselves home after a termination with no sedation?

I am booked in next week for a termination and was wondering if I will feel well enough to drive myself (50mins) home afterwards. I'm having an early suction proceedure and I don't want any sedation/aneasthetic so I won't feel groggy. Has anyone done it themselves, what would you recommend?

Absolutely no.
What if you go faint or the bleeding becomes heavy ?
It wouldn`t be safe for you or fair on you and otjher drivers also.

You will also void your insurance - don't do it! Drive yourself that is good luck with the termination

You'll have to at least have local anaesthetic - two jabs in the cervix - in order for the surgeon to dilate the cervix enough to get the suction tube in.

So no, don't drive.

I've not had a termination, but I did have a loop electroexicision procedure done on my cervix with only local anaesthetic and even with that, I was too sore to have driven home - and that didn't involve opening my cervix.

I've had a suction procedure for a missed miscarriage, however, and the cramps afterwards are pretty strong.

I did it. Went for a walk round the town before setting off and had a cup of coffee. No problems.

BUT it may have been much easier for me because I have had 5 D&C procedures in the past so am fairly 'flexible' down there.

thanks for the advice, it's just so difficult to arrange for someone to have the kids and then for someone to come with me, plus I don't want anyone to know really.

I mean DH knows of course, he's having the kids, and I supose could ask my SIL, who is great, to come with me. I thought if the cramps were just like a period then I might be able to

it's hard to know what your cramps are going to be like, that's the thing.

could be like a bad period, could be worse.

colditz · 30/01/2008 20:30

No please don't, I went with a friend once when I was about 17, and I had to almost carry her back to the train station ... and she wasn't very aware.

marina · 30/01/2008 20:31

Please ask your SIL - post-procedure reactions are not always predictable.

ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHands · 30/01/2008 20:32

What Colditz said.. to the letter!

xxOnlyMexx · 30/01/2008 20:33
