Calling dentists - tooth problem in 18m old.

DS2 appears to have some holes in his molars. I can only see them in the two top molars (the first ones from the front of the mouth).

I took him to the dentist, but she said that although she could see them, she didn't think that they were caused by decay, and just to bring him back in 6 months. She said some children are born with pitted teeth.

I'm still a bit worried about this, and considering seeking a second opinion. There are loads of dentists in the practise, so I think this would be easy to do.

He is bf, and is an manic avid feeder. He feeds probably bi-hourly during the day, and up to 6 times a night. Until recently he would feed virtually constantly during the night. Also he had really severe reflux until he was a year old - throwing up 40+ times per day at the worst, down to probably 5 times a day by the end. I'm concerned that this problem could be linked to one or both of these issues.

Any thoughts? Do you think I should take him back, or am I making a mountain out of a molehill. DS1 was similar re bfing, and has perfect teeth. DH and I also have good teeth, I've never heard of this pitting thing before.

Well, IMHO (I work for a dentist) I would say you could trust a dentist to recognise decayed molars! If you did want a second opinion you might be better to try another practice, ours aren't keen on seeing each others patients as it can get awkward.

Thanks for your reply. Just worried that she didn't really get a good look at them - DS2 wasn't exactly being cooperative with opening his mouth!

I am pretty sure they would have to be certain there was no decay to send you away for 6 months.

Thanks for the reassurance.
