Just a bit shocked really. No risk factors, she doesn’t even take the pill.

theyre talking about further investigations to see why she’s developed a clot so not sure what that will be. She’s already got a couple of auto immune conditions, fibromyalgia and coeliac disease. Also has EDS and POTS. I know some auto immune stuff can cause clotting issues so wondering if she has another which we don’t know about yet

OP, wouldn’t it be the Haematologist rather than the GP changing her meds?

She’s been discharged from haematology. 🤷‍♀️

@Conqueeftador that’s interesting about the coeliac disease. It’s bizarre how many things seem to go hand in hand with it…..like EDS and ADhD and autism.

Have her tested for factor V Leiden. I had 2 blood clots and eventually was told it was down to this. ) It's a mutation of one of the clotting factors in the blood. This mutation can increase your chance of developing abnormal blood clots, most commonly in your legs or lungs. Most people with factor V Leiden never develop abnormal clots which is why it's under diagnosed. Between 3-8% of people with European ancestry have one copy of the mutation so it's not rare.

@QuebecBagnet disclaimer - I used to sell apixaban and did a lot of clinical data training on all the anti coagulants as part of that role.

All of them will work for preventing another event such as PE DVT or stroke but apixaban had the better safety profile - in other words people have less bleeding side effects. That's why I believe it's the best. It's only negative is twice a day dose compared to rivaroxiban but in my opinion that's a small price to pay for the bleeding side effects

Thank you. That’s what we gathered from what I’d read. Dd is convinced she has gastrointestinal internal bleeding since been on the rivoxiban. She certainly has terrible periods and no ferritin.
