And my consultation is next week! I am very nervous and kind of know what to expect from the consultation but have no idea how long it will be between consultation and surgery. Does anyone have any ideas? Would it be a case of weeks or months?

TIA

Oh yes it affects my confidence alot & also affects what i can wear, i hate my boobs on show, always think people would be talking to them instead of me.

May have to speak to a doctor after i move, wonder how painful it all is though i am a total wimp so the procedure scares me big time.

BigBadMouse · 30/01/2008 20:59

So nice to see a thread about this. Congrats Buttercup. I hope all goes well and swiftly for you. My DHs aunt had a reduction done and she was different person as a result - she was so much happier.

Big boobs can be hell. I am a 30JJ and I have friends who are jealous but they have no idea about the backache, the large number of bras I get through (due the elastic not keeping up with the task) and the difficulty with breathing it can give you. I had to see a physiotherpist a few years ago after a car accident and he said to me - you slouch too much, why do women with big boobs slouch? They should hold them up proudly! He obviously has never felt the weight of the things.

Right moan over....sorry

babybuttercup · 30/01/2008 22:17

Scooby i am so scared about the procedure! Not necessary the pain etc but what if it goes wrong?!

BigBadMouse, was your doctor for real?? Of course girls with bigger boobs are going to slouch more! It's not a case of wanting to, but yes they can weigh you down, he sounds a bit of a twat to be honest!
I am also fed up of meeting people and them just talking to my boobs and i hate the fact that "some" men seem to think "big boobs = easy" WTF!!!
I once had a "friend" say to me " oh im glad i have small boobs cos then theres less chance i will die of cancer" When i asked how she worked that out she said " well if you have a lump then you wouldnt find it in big boobs and you would die" Yeah thanks for that, it makes me feel great

Babybuttercup - he was OK - but I was very glad to stop the treatment. I was quite young at the time, now I would have a long string of responses to give

babybuttercup · 30/01/2008 22:28

me too!

Hi,

Well i have had my pre-op today and i am going in on 1st March for my op! We went through what would happen on the day etc and i would expect to be in hospital for 2 - 5 days depending on healng. Before my consultation i did go and get measured and found out i was bigger than i thought, so thanks for the advice as it will now help with my surgery!!

hey buttercup - I think the waiting time between consultation and surgery varies hugely depending on which NHS area you're in. In some places it's as quick as a couple of months, in others it's six months plus.

I had a breast reduction in 2004, which I paid for myself with a bank loan. It was a pretty scary procedure but is one of the best decisions I ever made, I'm so much happier with the way I look now. Good luck with your op - hope it all goes as you want it to.

babybuttercup · 11/03/2008 14:39

Hi,

Just wanted to update those that were interested/considering breast reduction. I had my op last Saturday and it all went really well. Was in hospital until the Monday as i had a bad reaction to the Anaestetic(?) and Morphine - it could only happen to me! I have gone from a G cup to a D cup and they look fantastic even though they are stil healing. I had the dressing and bandages on until yesterday when i had to go back and have it all removed. The scars are obviously still very red and i'm still bruised and swollen but i can already see how much they are healing.

All i can say to those that are considering it and want it, go for it!

great news I'm planning to appeal to my doctor when I've finished feeding ds2 . Am size 10 and 32 HH have got bigger with every pregnancy they have never shrunk back. I suffer bad with neck pain. Dents in my bones from bra straps! Doc said no two yrs agobut am getting second opinion. Did you find put what size you were getting? Did you ask as I've heard they take off enough to make you comfy and no more? I'd die to be C cup

babybuttercup · 11/03/2008 14:59

Hi Piffle,

When you go for a consultation they discuss sizes with you then, but they cant give you a definate size as they do like to do it to your body shape. For example, my consultant was fantastic and said that as i'm a size 12 he would like to make me a C/D cup as a B cup for example would look too small for my body.
When you go to the doctors you need to make it clear that you suffer with back pain, indent in the shoulders from the straps and most importantly low confidence/lack of self esteme due to this. Your mental health with be a huge factor in whether they accept to do it on the NHS so may need to elaborate on this!

thank you for replying. Will bear all this in mind. No worries re esteem I hate the way I look and it affects me a lot. I also suffer from fungal rashes due to the heat/ moisture and it drives me to tears.
Hope the healing goes well for you. I'm a definite 10 sometimes 8 in the hips/waist so perhaps a C cup is achieveable, plus adding in possibility of them growing again.

babybuttercup · 11/03/2008 15:11

Yes i think a C is defnately reasonable. I hope the doctor does agree to do it on the NHS as i can 100% say that it would make a great deal of difference to your life as it is mine. The only other thing to bare in mind is that it is 4 - 6 weeks recovery time and that includes no lifting or driving for a min of 3 - 4 weeks.

would get mum to come and help me ... Dp says if i wait we can do it in a few yrs privately but I'm 37 and feel I'd like it really soon!

dizzydixies · 11/03/2008 18:20

what a brilliant thread, am pg with dc3 and once bf all done am back into gp to get my name down for it too. have spoken to her about it before and she said to wait till had finished the family

am hoping they might fo a full mummy job on me at the time

well done on your op buttercup

babybuttercup · 13/03/2008 15:46

I think if you CANT'T get it done on the NHS but can afford to have it done privately then you should. But if the NHS will do it for you then why waste your money? The NHS may not have the best press but i was over the moon with the help and support i recieved by my cosultant and hope you recieve the same.

thank you - I hope your recovery goes really well and you're so delighted with your new boobs you'll be hard pushed to keep them to yourself, I know I would be after years of hating mine lol
