Hip pain and gait questions

I stopped running due to hip pain last year. I saw a physio and they got me doing clamshells, bridges, lunges, pigeon stretch etc. It’s better in that it doesn’t hurt anymore day to day but I can’t run or cycle without discomfort or sometimes pain. I’ve noticed that my arch of my foot on the affected hip side sometimes aches after walking and I have no issues on the other side. I was thinking maybe the hip problem is affecting my walking or whether the way I walk has caused my hip problem?

Because I’m no longer in pain I don’t know that my GP will be able to do anything. Should I go back to the physio?

I had a really similar thing to this. Saw a physio who suggested it was because I walk with one foot turned in. 12 quid on some orthopaedic insoles, problem solved!
If you can find someone to do a gait analysis, it might shed a similar light on the problem.

I’d go and see a podiatrist.

You haven't spoken to an actual doctor? I am gobsmacked a physio agreed to treat - and rigorous treatment at that - with no diagnosis. The GP can, and should, refer you for tests and specialist advice. This might be nothing. It might be any one of the forms of arthritis or tendonitis. Of which there are hundreds...

Quebec do podiatrists do gait analysis? I’ve never been to one.

Quveas I suppose because I wasn’t in lots of pain, it hurt but low-level that presumably I and they thought it was ok? But good advice thank you.

Yes a podiatrist will do gait analysis - check when you ring up that they have someone who does MSK or biomechanical assessment. Could be any of a number of things, even something as straightforward as a leg length discrepancy (which is common and can be helped with insoles)

Have you had a baby - if so it could be PGP? If your pelvis is out of alignment your flat foot could be compensating for the fact that one side is higher than the other.

Thanks amazonian I will do that.

HotPenguin no I haven’t had children.
