How do I get 2yo to take antibiotics? Really struggling...

That's it really. DD2, who is not quite 2 yet, won't take the antibiotics we need to give her 4 times a day. It's a pink liquid - we've had a yellow one before and it was even worse. We've tried mixing it with yoghurt and that sort of worked this morning (she had half of it) but she won't even try it this evening. I tried tipping it into her mouth before and she just spat it all out. We have on a previous occasion 'forced' it into her and she ended up throwing up both the antibiotics and the little dinner she'd had. So now she's only had half a dose out of 4 and this ear infection she has is not going to clear if we keep going like this. Any ideas?

I haven't got a syringe in the house - I'll have to get one tomorrow and try that way, thanks. She was even refusing calpol just now which is very unlike her but it's probably because it's the same colour as the ABs. I did try wrapping her in a towel and tipping her back and I managed to get it into her - she then realised it was the nice stuff and was licking her lips! Thanks for the tip about the syringe.

Have you asked the dr for capsules? This way you could empty the powder into food and it can't be tasted

Tickle under the chin after you've squirted it in - gets them to swallow

I sit on the floor with my legs apart

I lie baby/lo between my legs with her head at the top

I put a leg over her right arm & leg & my other leg over her other side - then squirt at the back tickle & stroke her throat and the drop in a jelly baby

Oh, all good ideas! I'll give them a go tomorrow. I did mention to the doctor that I was struggling to give her the medicine but she just shrugged . I knew MN would be more helpful!

Our nanny had a cracking method. Chocolate buttons lined up on the shelf, full body restraint position and the threat. If you swallow the medicine you can have a chocolate button. If you spit it out I EAT THE CHOCOLATE! DD hates medicine (always has) but hates someone else getting her chocolate more! 'spired!
