So I had a c section 2 weeks ago today . After c section I noticed my vision felt hazy which I mentioned to doctor but was put down to my chronic migraines which had caused this in past and I remember after birth of my dd1 I had visual issues following birth .
Over last two weeks had lots of migraine auras which again didn’t worry me as I have a distinct recollection of a similar pattern after my first child .
On Saturday night I looked up from my phone to look at tv and felt like my left eye wouldn’t focus covered my left and found right eye was fine . It was double vision in my left and the pictures seems to be overlapping .
it’s been like this since when reading at distance and the odd occasion of feeling like my eyes won’t focus close up too .
I panicked and visited eye hospital following morning who couldn’t find nothing sinister part from. Dry patches on eye .
it still remained last night so I went to a &e as I started worrying about a stroke .
a and e did not have worries of a stroke but did worry about a clot due to post partum risk factors . Had a ct scan of vessels in head - all clear . Doctor seemed a bit at a loss and seemed concerned about double vision still remaining . He rang on call eye doctor who kind of dismissed his fears and said seemed like a refractive error and not to worry unduly .
so I was let go . My question is is it unusual to get a sudden refractive error in one eye and will it go ? Any other things it should be ? I’ve felt awfully nauseous but that was kind of dismissed as part of my chronic migraine ! Still feel concerned as seems so unusual

You need to go and have an eye examination with an optometrist. Vision can change when you're pregnant or breastfeeding and that (combined with tiredness) can cause binocular vision problems to develop. It's usually easily fixable.

No idea if this is helpful but DH had sudden onset of double vision in both eyes. Stopped driving. Vision test at opticians and prescribed special lenses which have corrected his vision.
Hope you vision is better soon OP

I suffer with chronic migraines. Day 3 of one currently. My sight does all sorts when it comes to migraines. Hazy fuzzy lines flittering about, lose sight of one eye, double vision. All last a variable amount of time each and every time. So far with this migraine I've had hazy wavy lines, and loss of vision in one eye.
It may could well be nothing, as I know hormones and everything after birth getting back to normal can increase the amount of goings on when it comes to migraines and your vision.
If you're still worried then get your sight checked properly. Just to make sure. X

@underneaththeash thanks for replying . Do you know if it’s common to happen so suddenly ? That’s my worry . Hospital seemed concerned but then when they rang eye doctor registrar he seemed more Blaise about it

@caramac04 thanks for replying . How long did it last for your husband ? Did he get a diagnosis or why it happened ?

@Adeleex thanks for replying ! Yes part of me thinks it’s migraine related too as I have a whole host of migraine symptoms ir tingling nausea etc but it’s just scared me as never had double vision before . How long do you typically have bad spells ? My longest ongoing spell was 6 weeks constant . Feel for you it’s so hard to live with I totally relate x

I don’t want to cause undue worry, but it was double vision (diplopia) which led to my MS diagnosis. There are limited reasons why you can get double vision.

have you spoken to your GP about a neurology referral?

Hooverphobe · 10/11/2022 18:57

I just wanted to add given the “phone advice” from the on-call eye doctor - that it was my optician who hit the “oh fuck” button and got me a hospital appointment within an hour! My GP had sent me straight to the optician who of course used all her machines to look at my eyes… not just the magic of a telephone. 😉

Lkakpk · 10/11/2022 19:00

@Hooverphobe yes luckily I’m already under neurology for migraine so I’m awaiting urgent app but I doubt it’s ms as had a mri scan less than 3 months ago and was clear . I go back eye hospital on Monday

Oh that’s brilliant news that you’re already in the system! 🙏 Definitely something to take to them.

Lkakpk · 10/11/2022 19:09

@Hooverphobe Thankyou ! Fingers crossed it gets resolved

@Lkakpk vision along with sickness is probably my two main things I get with my migraines. More so recently, vision problems!! I remember the first time.my eye sight was affected by one, I was in the middle of coop and didn't have a migraine, my left eye started going blurry and then to the point I just couldn't see out of it. I ended up having a panic attack as I didn't know WTH just happened, turns out a migraine attack happened the next day and it was like a "warning sign." 🙄
Thankfully I've never experienced anything longer than a week in one long attack without any let off really. They haven't been half as long since I had 3rd child 2.5 years ago but this 3 day one is currently proving me wrong and causing havoc, I don't think it's going anywhere, any time soon.

Keep pushing if you feel something just isn't right. Just because we suffer with migraines doesn't mean to say everyone can just palm it off as that because let's face it, it's easier for them to do that sometimes from experience. Xx

OP my DH has not had a diagnosis, opticians seemed perplexed as to why but knew how to treat the symptoms. As he wears glasses anyway it was just a change of lenses. Took a few weeks as they’re fairly specialised. He was in his sixties and felt it was possibly age related but I’d never heard of it. No further issues since though.

Lkakpk · 10/11/2022 20:21

@Adeleex Thankyou hope you are feeling better soon too xx

Thanks for all replies . Does anyone know if it’s rare to happen so suddenly ?

OP posts:
Hooverphobe · 11/11/2022 13:11

Mine came on overnight. One had been a bit blurry in the mornings for a while and I just put it down to age/tiredness.

Lkakpk · 11/11/2022 18:25

@Hooverphobe how are you now ?

OP posts:
Hooverphobe · 11/11/2022 18:49

It took about 2 months for my vision to be “normal” again and for my peripheral vision to return. GP gave me a massive dose of steroids which may or may not have hastened normality.

Lkakpk · 12/11/2022 19:54

@Hooverphobe I go back eye hospital Monday so I’ll keep you updated

OP posts:
Lkakpk · 14/11/2022 15:21

So I went back eye hospital today and they seem to think my childhood squint which kind of corrected itself but still shows up when I’m tired /sick etc is causing the double vision probably due to hormones /lack of sleep . Waiting for referral for eye test . Does this seem likely cause for sudden onset ?
