the tongue

the tongue is heading to the hole isn't it

(don't know what dry socket is .. but I think the worst that will happen is you'll knock the clot out and it will bleed again)

LIZS · 29/01/2008 17:22

Gargle - salty water as hot as you can bear.

Tiggiwinkle · 29/01/2008 17:23

You get dry socket if you knock the blood clot out and another one fails to form I think. When have you been told to start hot salt water washes?

southeastastra · 29/01/2008 17:24

have been told not to rinse until 24 hours so tommorrow at 12. i could try warm tea. i'm not meant to have anything hot.

I tnink you usually have to wait for 24 hours before starting the washes for that reason (not dislodging the clot)

Tiggiwinkle · 29/01/2008 17:26

Sorry x posted southeastrata!

Tiggiwinkle · 29/01/2008 17:28

southeastastra · 29/01/2008 17:30

that's ok, maybe it'll just come out on it's own, i can't avoid food forever but am very scared of getting that socket thing!

Rinse now to dislodge it. You are told not to rinse for 24hours so as not to dislodge the clot. Losing this and a new one not forming causes a dry socket. However if you rinse now the clot may be washed aaway but as it is a fresh wound it will bleed again and a new clot form. Better than leaving a bit of food which is a prime bacterial target.

southeastastra · 29/01/2008 19:01

rinsed it, but now i'm not sure it is food, it looks white, is this normal? shouldn't it still be red?

I have no advice - sorry. Try to stop looking at it! I keep doing that constantly at the moment - have wonky wisdom tooth which has pushed part of the filling out of tooth next door. Oh god I can feel panic starting as I'm sure the dentist is going to say "we'll pull that wisdom tooth out" when I go next week. Was it awful? Please tell me there was no pain! I had one wisdom tooth out about 11 years ago and can remember awful crunching noise.

Hope your tooth (hole) is ok.

southeastastra · 29/01/2008 19:21

the tooth i had pulled was wonky to start with but i had a massive abcess over it which was v painful. it didn't hurt to have it pulled though.

i should stop looking at it and i keep googling stuff which isn't helping.
