Cut top of thumb - so painful! Warning: graphic image with blood

Managed to slice a chunk out of the top of my thumb last night while chopping veg. It didn’t stop bleeding for ages (note to self: restock first aid kit with plasters and bandages bigger than a small postage stamp…) then was throbbing all night. I ended up wrapping it in a napkin and strong sticky tape just so I could get some sleep.

This morning I’ve taken the napkin off and cleaned it but it’s very ‘open’ and sore. Should I just shove another dressing on it and leave it?! Feeling sorry for myself and have loads of computer work to do so this is going to make me so slow 😩

I’d go and get that looked at! Nurse at your GP? Or pharmacy?

Triple wrap it so it doesn't catch on stuff, but keep and eye out for infection.
Make the plaster fairly tight, so it helps stop the bleeding. Looks to me like it's ready to heal, to be honest.

I say that as someone who's had antibiotics for cellulitis and tracking.

Ouch@
My 9 year old DS recently done something similar but decided to put his finger in a doorway and pull it out at an angle taking a massive chunk of skin out. It didn't stop bleeding for ages.
Once it calmed down, we wrapped it up and it's healing well. We change the dressing regularly and more recently a bit of savlon under the plaster or dressing seems to be speeding up the process. I'd advise keeping it wrapped up and just keep an eye for infection. Xx
