DS not getting rotavirus vaccine because of miscommunication

DS is fifteen weeks and four days. His second vaccines are scheduled for tomorrow.

His first vaccines were at nine weeks and were done when I was I hospital with him, an admission for me. The hospital I was in said they'd communicate to my local authority and we wouldn't be marked as a missed appointment. We also spoke to our health visitor to verify. When there we were told he couldn't have rotavirus vaccine as I was immunocompromised but they said they'd chase it up to see, and if ok he could have it with second vaccines.

When I left hospital we got a letter from local health board telling us off for missing his vaccines. We contacted them straight away and told them we'd had them in hospital. We also mentioned rotavirus had been missed and why.

Health visitor also said hospital had got it wrong and he needed rotavirus vaccine. Second vaccines, plus first for rotavirus scheduled for tomorrow, except today they called and said we can't have rotavirus now as he's too old, and it's because we missed the first one

He's prem and has been hospitalised with RSV already so I don't know what rotavirus would do to him.

Can we do anything?

Surely they can go by his corrected date? I do know there's a cut off for rota virus. The vaccine also isn't as effective as the other vaccines if you read the information booklet and side effects are more common so some parents choose not to give it at all..
But there's definitely a cut off...
Communication re vaccines between the different sectors is woeful...

There's a danger of getting sick from their stools after the rota virus vaccine, you're meant to be really careful, wear gloves when changing nappy, double bag the nappies etc so maybe it wasn't safe to risk it when you were unwell..

Considering its only 4 days I would be blowing a fuse and insisting he has it as they miscommunicated with each other..
Or else being really nice and pleading, it's hard to know which way to go but it is meant to be given before 15 weeks so maybe they have to follow protocol and can't change that..

Thanks. I am tempted to plead and cry. I'm actually on the immunosuppressant long term but it took them ages to check he could have it if I was.

I'm so angry about miscommunication.

I don't think you'll get it.

My DS (3) was booked in for his pre school jabs last week. Got a call that morning to say he can't have it as he's 4 days too young for it. The receptionist booked us in too early and the nurse said she can't do it even a day early. So the fact your son will now be 5 days over the age limit I don't think they will. It's wrong because it's not your fault.

I'm really sorry, its sucks. Did they give you an option of someone else changing the nappies or anything? If you took precautions like gloves I would have thought it would be okay..

Thanks guys. He didn't have it.x
