Swollen knee in toddler?

My 3 year old has been limping now on and off for 6 months. Worse in the mornings gets slightly better the more she uses it. Two weeks ago the limp was quite severe. Saw the Gp who wasn't concerned at all.the limp persisted so we went to our A&E who said there was an obvious limp but because she wasn't in pain they weren't worried. They xrayed her hip said she was fine and told to go home. I asked if it could possibly be an issue with her knees as she is always limping or her knees always give way. Showed them a photo which I thought showed slight swelling around the knee. He said they looked fine and no reason to stay her knee as no pain. The limp is still there. AIBU to pay privately for an X-ray of her knee? TIA

This doesn’t sounds right op, keep pushing. I find it strange they didn’t X-ray her knee as that seems to swollen joint. Something isn’t right, keep going back would be my advice. Or go private.

The doctor rotated her knee and because there was no pain said he wasn't concerned. I've asked for an orthopaedic referral but I've been told it's up to a year wait :(

Keep pushing is my advice, keep nagging at them. If you can, try and get video evidence of her knee giving way. Make a note of how often this is happening too.
It's visibly swollen, and that's not "normal" for a toddler, especially when there is also an ongoing limp. Just because she's not in pain doesn't mean there's nothing wrong. Good luck xx

And to answer your last questions.. YANBU. at all. And if you go privately and there does seem to be something wrong.. they have a lot to answer for.
I also want to say, whatever is going on there may not show up on an xray, certain things can only show up on the likes of an MRI x

I would.go back to the GP and ask them if they think could be juvenile inflammatory arthritis and ask for a referral to rheumatology

Thank you everyone, Doctors sometimes have a way of making you think it's in your head don't they? I have a private appointment tomorrow afternoon with orthopaedics so will update you all :) x

Maybe ask for a referral to podiatry as well. Dh had problems with his knees for years, went to podiatry about something completely different to be told that his ankles were causing the knee problem. Got given custom orthotics and problem solved.
