Need to raise my TSH from 0.5 to over 1 - what do I need to ask for?

I need to raise my TSH from 0.5 to over 1. My GP is not the best with thyroid issues so I need to have a clear idea of what I need.

(For info, T3 and T4 both in the normal range.)

Is it carbimazole I need please?

Why do you need to raise your TSH? 0.5 is usually still within the lab range.

Do you have a diagnosis?

Tell us more if you can. It's difficult to figure out what is going on from your post.

Sorry! It’s due to infertility. Although my results of 0.4-0.5 are just within the reference ranges, it is affecting embryo implantation. It needs to be between 1-2 for successful implantation.

Thanks. Never heard of that. Usually for fertility you would need to have TSH below 2 or 2.5.

Carbimazole is not compatible with pregnancy anyway. Are you being referred to an endocrinologist?

Zend · 07/11/2022 17:50

Yes, but I’ve been told the waiting list is up to two years. I’ve contacted some private endocrinologists and their waiting lists are six months! I was hoping if I had an idea of what I needed, I could ask the GP to trial me for a couple of months while I wait for the referral.

While 1 in 20 of us in the western world are trying to keep our TSH down, your request is somewhat unusual and it's not going to be that simple I'm afraid.

You could try Thyroid UK, see what they say.

Have you had problems conceiving? Many nhs trusts have programmes for women with risk factors for pregnancy. Could you could ask to be referred to that the one in my local area is called Silver Star. I know people with hypothyroidism are referred there.
