Just thought id throw this out there to see if anyone has experienced it - whilst understanding not all of you are medical professionals 😊
So my DS is 7 years old.
He has previously had what seems to be like petechiae twice within the last 4 or so months on both shoulders at the same time, lasting around a week, and at both times I have put it down to having a viral bug going about as my elder son and younger son had both had bugs going around at these times also.
More recently he's developed like a single cough, which he does now and again throughout the day, mainly when hes up and about and doing things. But not at all at night when he's sleeping. His fluid intake has increased a lot.. we can't even walk down the street for 2 minutes without him needing water, he drinks lots of it. This is also all he will drink, apart from the occasional chocolate milk - though I'm not complaining, he doesn't like fizzy, squash, juice, nothing. This morning walking to school (school is less than 5 minute walk) he had finished his water bottle.
I've also noticed he is taking frequent toilet trips, and we thought it was out of habit, he says he needs a wee all the time, but I've stood there with him and sometimes it's only a trickle. He's doing this around every 30 mins to an hour. He's been complaining of shin pain on and off in 1 leg.
It's a ball ache to get into the doctors and I've called 288 times this morning to try and get him seen to, to be told they've got a 5 minute slot at 12pm to which I've taken, when they asked what was wrong I said I don't know, possible urine infection but could be something completely different, hence why I want him seen.
I just wondered if any medical pros are here, or if anyone has similar experiences with a child of theirs and what the cause was or is?! He hasn't been spiking any temps, no loss of appetite or anything. He does seem tired more often than not at the moment also. TIA x

Sorry, my only experience of frequent thirst is diabetes, have you had this checked? If it was a urine infection wouldn't that cause pain and discomfort? Has he mentioned anything like that? Struggling to urinate? Sorry I couldnt be more help. My daughter is constantly sick just now so I know how worrying it is, I hope you get to the bottom of it Flowers

PopcornChewingGum · 07/11/2022 11:04

Sympathies OP. I can only say that 'always tired, always thirsty, always going to loo?' was the catch-phrase for a diabetes-awareness campaign when I was younger. Hoping it's not that

Adeleex · 07/11/2022 11:24

@BuffyTheBuffetSlayer thank you for your reply. That was my thoughts regarding UTI.. he would surely be having some form of discomfort somewhere but I have asked and he says no, just that he feels like he needs to wee.
It's so worrying isn't it, just hoping they don't fob me off. I didn't even think about diabetes tbh, but I will certainly raise this at the GP appt.
I hope your daughter is OK, and you get to the bottom of whatever it is soon. Xx

@PopcornChewingGum thank you for your reply. I'll mention this to the GP if they don't mention querying diabetes themselves. It's just not "normal" for him so I know something isn't completely right.. its just a little extra of a worry when it's a younger one rather than yourself sometimes isn't it 🥴 thank you again x

Blooming heck op

i would definitely book. If you can’t get through - I’d go there in person to book

Adeleex · 07/11/2022 11:37

@Ohyoucutie I persevered with the phone calls for an hour and a half. To be told there was nothing but I demanded he was to be seen and she said "well I can get you in for a 5 minute one at 12 and that's it or he will have to wait until you can get another appt" thing is you have to ring on the day at out GP surgery and takes at least an hour to get through to be told there's nothing left!
I've written symptoms down given its only 5 minutes and just hoping the Dr were seeing actually listens and just doesn't fob us off because they're busy.

I could scream 🤣😂 but I'm remaining calm, for my sons sake if anything!! Thank you for your reply. I'll update after appt x

UPDATE

Been seen by a lovely gp thankfully. He's been asked to do a urine sample to test for any sugars in his urine as she's querying diabetes (I didn't have to mention it myself!) & also a UTI to be on the safe side although she doesn't think it's UTI related.
For the coughing side of things she is querying asthma, as he has a history of collapsed lungs and pneumonia, so she's booked us in herself for a face to face appt on Thursday to try help us get to the bottom of all of this. 🥴
Thank you all for your replies x

UPDATE

Back to square one 🤣😂
Urine test has come back neg for any UTI and she said his sugars are fine in the urine sample given. Does anyone know if testing for diabetes through urine is a solid definite negative for that, if sugars are of normal range in the urine?! Never dealt with diabetes before so just wondered if anyone knew before I see her again on Thursday.
The only other thing I could think of is he has maybe had a near miss at having an accident either at school or at home and just made it to the toilet in time, and now it's set in his mind that he needs to go all the time because he's worried he will have an accident. But again, it doesn't explain the tiredness and the thirstyness he's experiencing, so I'm at a loss with what else it could be 😴🥴
Hopefully we will know more Thursday.
Thank you for all your replies today x
