Psoriasis on eyelids, anyone? What do you use? Non-steroidal would be great, Protopic? And what about skin care?

So, psoriasis on the eyelids, yay!

I've got the lowest strength hydrocortisone (0.5%) but am aware that it thins the skin, and am looking for alternatives. I have a GP appointment coming up, and I'm going to ask for Protopic.

Any experiences or advice welcome.

Skincare wise, everything burns and I'm just putting vaseline on the area for now.
Eye cream reccs also welcome. (Not Kiehls Avocado, which I thought would totally fit the bill but actually stung.)

Massive sympathy - I'm sat here waiting for a call back from my GP about the recurrent eczema on my eyelids 😥

From my own, and long-term experience of this: low-dose hydrocortisone + Protopic are definitely the way to go. Maybe also take some antihistamines to bring down redness/swelling, and generally lower the immune response. Doublebase Gel is my go-to when my skin goes beserk - you can get it in smaller tubes over the counter in the chemists.

Please please do not try any general mainstream facial cream/etc stuff until it's properly cleared up (or at least, be extremely careful) - even the stuff marked as fine for sensitive skin will still be packed full of ingredients that might irritate it. Things like E45 or Eucerin might be worth a shot, but I've found that they make my skin worse when it's in the midst of an eczema attack.

When I had very sore lower and upper eyelids, red, scally, sore etc the only thing helped was Bepanthen nappy rash ointment.

I had a patch of dry, itchy skin on my eyelids when I was particularly stressed a few years ago and someone suggested olive oil (I had used hydrocortisone but obviously didn’t want to take it for long). I used a tiny amount twice a day and it cleared up - and it didn’t hurt (unlike other topical creams I’d tried such as E45 etc). Give it a try?

I use aveeno and exfoliate regularly to rid the build up of skin..

My head psoriasis of all kinds went away when I stopped using liquid shampoo. Did conditioner only washing for years, now occasionally use bar shampoo (garnier)

also cleansing face with pure extra virgin olive oil helped me.

also boil washing sheets/ towels at 90 with very little detergent in case dustmites or chemicals making it flare.

it’s all different for everyone but basically, very little formulated/non-natural products worked for me and I am not normally an ‘evangelical about nature’s way’ type.

also the eyelid stuff broke out noticeably when I was tired or stressed or both. It’s so irritating and frustrating you have all my sympathy

I get eczema on my eyelids so not sure it’s the same but will give you my recommendations just in case!

khiels centella sensitive face wash is the only one I can use. Otherwise garnier sensitive micellar water (pink bottle) with cotton wool

holland & Barrett Dr Organic manuka honey rescue cream to moisturise my eyes and face.

antihistamines help too

no eye make up till it clears up, this may be obvious but my mother is always saying I should cover it up with makeup 😂🙄

hope it gets better soon!!!

Should have said, I also use a bit of hydrocortisone when it flares up. Clears it up quickly. Other products I suggested are more for keeping the skin calm and stopping flare ups.

@haribonoyoudont I tried Cerave the night before last, and yes, it was a mistake!

@MistyRock and @Midwinterblues Olive oil and bepanthan cream are both at hand, thank you. I'd totally forgotten that bepanthan was a good option. And @rainstorm101, lots of good advice, thank you.

I have psoriasis and find that going low carb helps.
Difficult when I love bread and pastries :-(

Have you looked into treatments for blepharitis instead? My optician diagnosed it a few years ago and prescribed me some wipes and cream… it seems to have done the trick.

I think as I went into my mid to late 40's I developed eczema on my eyelids. I first thought it was something to do with a change in my shampoo but it wasn't.

What I found brilliant and that worked for me was these products (I'll give you the links to them from the Boots website or other website if possible).

I didn't need to use much but I did have to use it on a regular basis for about 14 days for it to clear up entirely. I cannot speak for Psoriasis on my eyelids but I would be hopeful that it would work for you (or at least ease the itch which is terrible and the skin around your eyes is so delicate and thin).

I've included the cotton swabs as the last item. In the picture you can see that one end of the swab is rounder and flatter so I would apply the cream/gel to that end and then use that to apply to the skin around my eye. That way I wasn't touching the eye area (even with clean hands) and was able to apply the cream/gel to exactly where I needed to. I could then dispose of that swab and use a fresh one for the other eye, so no cross contamination going on.

Best of luck to you with this. I remember when I had eczema and the skin around my eyes was so flaky and soooo itchy. Hope you're able to get a resolution that suits you before too long.
