Heart murmur

Please can I have a bit of a hand hold? I’ve been having mild chest pain and some palpitations for the last couple of days so saw the GP at his morning who said he heard a heart murmur and has referred me for an echocardiogram. They did an ecg which was normal so said they aren’t worried but obviously because the heart murmur is new (or they’ve not heard it before) it needs to be checked. The rational part of my brain is saying it’s nothing to worry about and is just one of those things but the anxious part is frantically googling and coming up with scary things.

I have a heart murmur, I’ve had it all my life and it has never caused any problems. I had an echo a few years ago and all was good.

Step away from Google, it’s good that the ecg showed as normal.

Are you suffering with anxiety at the moment? Palpitations are horrible and exhausting x

Panicmode1 · 02/11/2022 17:35

And me - along with a small hole. Has never caused me problems. Hope your murmur is similarly benign. A normal ECG sounds positive.

I have had one since birth too.
I am also a Cardiac Physiologist.
Don't worry, it can be quite innocent you need an Echo to find out what's causing it.
I have been fine, just have a bit of a woosh when anyone listens to my Heart.

Agree step away from Google.

My grandmother was told she had a murmur in 1911, aged 16. She said she spent the next 2 weeks "in mortal fear" and then decided not to worry. She was 90 when she died (REALLY old then)

I've got one, diagnosed mid 20s, non congenital, had echo this year and there is an aortic stenosis they're keeping an eye on but not really too bothered about. I'm nearly 60.

Op, absolutely right to get it checked out, but please try not to worry. The ECG result was good news Flowers

Hi, very similar position, I’ve had flutters for the last few months and felt generally unwell. Dizziness, fatigue and iBS symptoms. I’ve been back and forth to docs and A&e and 2 doctors have now heard a murmur and I’ve been referred for an echo and 48 hour holter. I’ve had about 10 ecgs in the last 3 months all normal and bloods too.(bloods show no damage to my heart) I have had anxiety for 8 years but my meds stopped working in March when I had covid. My anxiety is sky high especially when I get the flutters. I’ve tried cbt, hypnosis and meditation but nothing works and I’m constantly thinking I’m just going to drop dead.
