These seem to be the "thing" now; anyone had one and really felt different - in a good or bad way?

It depends on your levels and your medical condition.

I had a series of injections when ill from glandular fever, these shots literally kept me going. I was very ill with it, spent 10 days in hospital, and recovery was shocking. The shots gave me enough energy to be able to shower and eat.

That was quite a while ago now, but when I'm really run down I'll have a (smaller) series of injections. I find it's the only thing that really helps, but I am very deficient in all the vit b's as a baseline.

I’ve had a course of 6 as my levels were low and i feel absolutely no difference

Chomolungma · 01/11/2022 20:28

I've just had a course because a blood test showed my levels were really low. I've had a repeat blood test and my levels are back up in the healthy range. I don't feel any different though.

@HCHQ if you are referring to the b12 health clinics offer then it isn't worth having unless you actually need it. It is water soluble so your body will just pee it out if you don't need it. Making it really expensive pee.

Crabacus · 16/08/2023 21:56

Yes I've noticed a difference. But that's because I have pernicious anaemia! In my case they are literally life-saving.
@Chlobo89 and @Chomolungma a course of 6 will do bugger all if your levels are really low. It gets it circulating round your bloodstream again but repairing the damage to your body can take months or years of consistent, regular shots. It took probably 3 years of twice weekly jabs to get back to pretty much normal for me.

I had 5 or 6 at an aesthetics place who were marketing them as energy boost type things. I was deficient though, just paying for them at that sort of place seemed less painful than seeing my GP!

Didn't feel any different, and unless you know you have specific medical issues (which I'd go for NHS treatment for) I'd try high strength sublingual supplements first, much cheaper!

You also need to make sure your folate is supplemented or the uptake of b12 will not be utilised.

CrunchyCarrot · 16/08/2023 22:12

You need to make sure you have adequate B2 (riboflavin) in order to metabolise B12.
