Please help me identify this rash

Hi
For background I have never suffered with skin allergies or rashes previously, however around 8 months ago I've developed some kind of dermatitis or something that causes my eyelids (upper and underneath) to be constantly red, dry and scaly and they swell up at least once a week too which is a nightmare. It took me an age to see a GP but when I finally did I had to push hard for a referral to the allergy clinic which they did but that was months ago and I haven't heard a thing.
Last week I woke up and my shoulders, neck and chest are now covered in the awful, angry, itchy, raised rash shown in the photo attached. Again I've tried to see the GP about it but can't get an appointment and the pharmacy won't give me any advise as I have an open referral. Does anyone have an idea what the rash is? Is it hives? Because I can't get any medical advice I've just been putting aveeno on but I'm not sure if that's making it worse? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

@TheSpottedZebra thank you. I've just clicked on the link but that appears to affect only hands and feet. Mine is only on my shoulders, chest, neck and upper back

Looks itchy, you poor thing. Does the distribution of the rash match your hair length, or is there anything you use just in that area?

Have you changed your washing powder, or fabric conditioner, or shower gel, or anything?

NiceTwin · 31/10/2022 21:42

I was going to say pompholyx too.
I bathe in a prescribed potassium permanganate solution but only get it on my feet.

SalviaOfficinalis · 31/10/2022 21:42

Aveeno makes my DS’s skin worse rather than better - so it doesn’t suit everyone. If you’re not sure I would stop using it.

TheSpottedZebra · 31/10/2022 21:43

Oh, I did clock it said ONLY hands and feet! I ahvelong term eczema and also/additionally had similar blisters on my... hands

TheSpottedZebra · 31/10/2022 21:44

DIDN'T clock, sorry!

Flowersintheattic57 · 31/10/2022 21:44

If you have some anti histamines that might help especially if you think it’s linked to an allergy. Sorry I have no idea what the rash is. Hope it gets resolved soon.

Sorry meant to post if you go on the Allergy UK webchat with that photo first thing they’ll identify it for you.

MrsMorrisey · 31/10/2022 21:47

Do you feel unwell? Fever?
Have you done the glass test?
I'd be taking an antihistamine pretty quickly.

Cudz · 31/10/2022 21:49

@MrsMorrisey I've had it for a week now so is definately a skin reaction of some kind. I've taken antihistamines but they haven't made any difference unfortunately.

@HangerLaneGyratorySystem oooh great thank you for that link I will definately try that tomorrow

Go to a different pharmacy and don't tell them about the referral?
Try GP again and say you'll send a pic?

Cudz · 31/10/2022 21:59

@TheSpottedZebra unfortunately all GP surgeries in this area are severely oversubscribed and even a telephone appointment has a minimum 6 week wait so no chance of me speaking with a GP about it anytime soon. I've visited 3 x pharmacies and all of them asked me about allergy referrals - I don't feel I should lie to them as this could impact on the advice they give me

If you can afford it, I'd be inclined to go private and go and see a dermatologist asap.

Chuckiegg · 31/10/2022 22:03

Some kind of Psoriasis?
I have dry scaly patches but a recent flare up in new places was more spotty/bumpy.

Cudz · 31/10/2022 22:06

@CoastalWave I wish I could but unfortunately we cannot afford that

What does the rash look like now? Is the picture a week of it or has it improved?

Is it hot to touch? Are they little blisters?

Which antihistamines have you tried?

Cudz · 31/10/2022 22:45

@Eskimolove the photo was taken tonight. I'd say it didn't start off as red as this but I think a lot of that is where I've desperately tried not to itch it and have just lightly rubbed it instead which has made it more angry over the course of the week. I'm in bed at the minute so I'm quite toasty and it does feel warm to touch but no warmer than the parts of my skin which don't have rashes on them. No blisters from what I can see just lots and lots of bumps like on my original photo.
Antihistamines are over the counter ones - I just asked them for the own brand piraton as I'd remembered martin Lewis saying on his show that they're exactly the same bar the price.

Uriticaria. It can spread across areas of the body like that. I once developed it when I wore a belt over a dress and got hot. I had a belt shaped rash and then over some months it spread across my entire torso. Get to the GP, you probably need some steroids...

Also... The eye thing sounds like blepharitis. Try wiping them clean several times daily or getting blephaclean wipes.

Apart from Aveeno and the antihistamines. Have you tried anything else? Are you on any other medications?

AngelaChasesBestLife · 31/10/2022 23:35

Guttate psoriasis? I had that in my twenties and it was all over my chest, arms and legs. I was lucky that my GP knew what it was, he said you rarely see cases of it. Apparently it was caused by my having a strep infection in my throat.

Ballsaque · 01/11/2022 06:34

Sorry you are suffering.
It’s impossible to get a GP appointment in my area also. Ridiculous!
