ILL 8 MONTH BABY - DO I WAKE HER for a Feed??

My 8month old has been ill and not had much appetite. She hardly takes any solids so I've been breastfeeding her as much as possible because I'm worried about dehydration. She had a very short and restless nap this morning (normally naps 45 mins) and was desperate for a nap at 12.30, but then woke an hour later (she normally naps for two hours from 1pm). She then fell asleep after a I tried to give her a breastfeed at 2.30pm and has been asleep since then. So, she's hardly had any liquid in her since 11am when I last successfully breastfed her.
I normally wake her at 3pm (if she hasn't woken herself) for a feed, but thought I'd leave her today because sleep will hopefully help her recover. But I'm anxious about her dehydrating, so should I wake her now and breastfeed her or should I let her wake whenever she chooses?
ANY WORDS OF WISDOM MUCH APPRECIATED.
BTW - She has never been a demand fed baby as she's never been very demanding of food and milk, so I've always had to offer her milk as opposed to wait for her to let me know she wants food.

are her nappies wet??
Is it wet now?

Tea71 · 28/01/2008 16:00

Yes, she's had wet nappies and she pooed when arpund her normal time this morning (she's very regular), though the poo was more liquidy and yellow (like new born poo, I guess because she's having more breast milk than solids).
her fever seems also to have subsided as I Calpoled her (it was 37.4 when I last took her temperature)
what would you do - wake her?

no don't wake her .. sleep will do her far more good

if she's gone 8 hours without a feed I'd wake her then though

It's your decision but if it was my ds (who is 7 months), I think I'd probably leave him a bit longer

thanks a lot everyone.
just as I finished typing the last message, my lo started crying, so I ran to get her up and give her a feed ... so I guess that answers it.

thanks for the advice though, as i'm sure there'll be times in the future when same question will arise.

THANK YOU!!
