Post-covid infection Bell’s palsy

I had covid starting 9 days ago - quite mildly, more like a bad cold. Finally tested negative two days ago. I was fine until this morning. Today I woke up with a one-sided droopy face, diagnosed (once they had ruled out a stroke) as Bell’s palsy. The registrar said they have seen a few cases of Bell’s palsy following covid infections. I’m not worried about BP - diagnosed and treated early, and I’m now on daily steroids for 10 days. I’m curious about the link with covid, though - has anyone else had BP following a covid infection? I’ve read that it’s a rare side effect of the vaccination - I had my booster four weeks ago - but can’t find much information on a link with covid infection.

After my first AZ vaccine, yes. But imo it was very weird. I was in hospital for five nights with it. I'm not convinced it wasn't a tiny clot, the hospital wouldn't rule it out either. I had completely recovered by day 4

Hello,

Hope you are good!

Just wondering if you have completely recovered.

A friend just got diagnosed and was recovering from cold/sore throat when it happened suddenly.

On Steroids now

What's your question? Trying to understand the reaction?

I read some research that was never peer reviewed, nor am I qualified to understand the research, but I read it all the same, that posited that vaccines cause a rush of white blood cells which then cause small aneurysms which cause ocular nerve damage in children after routine vaccination.

From what you say about being prescribed steroids (prednisolone?) it seems like the response is to damp the immune system to calm down a reaction, so it makes sense that the reaction is a heightened immune response?

So the jab is causing a heightened immune response, right?

BadGranny · 13/11/2022 15:22

I’m not suggesting it was a result of the jab - the doc posited that it was a result of the Covid infection I suffered ten days earlier. My last booster shot was several weeks earlier (and much good that did!). I was wondering if any others had developed Bell’s Palsy as a result of a Covid infection.

I had a ten-day course of prednisone, and was advised to expect full recovery in around three to six months.

It's an interesting question how many had BP after COVID unjabbed versus after just jabbed yes, and we would hope someone is collecting that data.

If you google it, it says the cause can be whole bunch of viral infections.
Information is there, maybe to soon to include covid there, but it makes sense to get it post covid.

Greybeardy · 13/11/2022 15:50

It’s well known that Bell’s palsy is triggered by viral infections quite often - wouldn’t be massively surprising if Covid was on the list.

MyAmara · 13/11/2022 17:31

Sorry my question is how long did it take you to recover.

We are trying to estimate when the face will return to normal

Last jab for my friend was the booster in December 2021.

It happened post viral infection.

Thank You

Oh, I haven’t recovered yet. Three weeks down the line, I can see some improvement, but there’s still a marked level of facial paralysis on one side. I was told to expect three to six months.

I know two people were boosted and then had bells palsy. One recovered quickly (3 ish weeks), One took a few months to see improvement. It is a known side effect of the "vaccine". I don't know if a well known side effect of covid.

Wifflywafflywoo · 23/11/2022 18:29

I'm on month 6 and still haven't recovered. Mine hit an hour after my c-section. I couldn't speak, eat, swallow properly, blink or move anything on the right side of my face. My eye is still unblinking, food still tastes weird and my lip is still pulled up a bit. It's utterly rubbish
