Lump on front of breast

sophieable · 26/10/2022 00:22

I'm absolutely terrified, in the shower and felt this lump on the front of my right breast! I froze after feeling it and burst into tears.. I have awful health anxiety but the one good thing that comes with that is that I know it's only recently popped up. It feels like the size of half a grape and the shape of a rugby ball. Painless and I can wriggle it around. I'm so scared. I will be ringing the doctors first thing, I just can't sleep after finding this..

It's VERY common to find lumps, and it's MOST LIKELY NOT cancer. I know you're gonna fret that you're that miniscule percent for whom it is not great news, but if it is, you're obviously on top of things checking-wise, so you'll have found it early. I am sorry for the stressful night you will have, but really try not to worry. No point worrying at this stage.

Thanks for your reply, I'm new to MN and don't know how to tag. I'm just led here sweating and trying not to get back into that thought of panic but I can't help it! I have 3 DC the youngest being 15 months old and I have all these thoughts going through my head, I hate this anxiety I have.

You have almost certainly described a perfectly harmless cyst, your description and the location of the lump indicate this is the likely diagnosis. HOWEVER, you must get it checked out by a professional for a definitive diagnosis on the off chance it’s not.

Thank you so much, that's eased my mind for sure! I was definitely in panic mode last night and this morning when I couldn't get an appointment! I'm seeing a doctor tomorrow morning thankfully but you have made the wait a little bearable! I Don't dare Google anything because it always comes up with the worst first!!

I give you permission to google 'fibroadenoma' which is what you're describing

sophieable · 26/10/2022 21:56

Thanks for that I've just bravely had a look haha. Sounds like what mine is pretty much, it's in the upper part of my breast and definitely no pain, can squish it from side to side between two fingers if that makes sense.

@sophieable I agree with @ChocChipOwl . I found a fibroadenoma when I was BF my son, felt like you describe and it seemed to appear overnight. Terrified, went to doc, went to hosp, had biopsy, was all fine. It hasn't changed a bit in all the years since and son is now 18! They said they could remove it if I wanted but it's harmless so I left it there. Really hope that you have exactly the same xxx

ChocChipOwl · 26/10/2022 22:56

@sophieable I had this three years ago and trust me when I say, I understand the terror. I was all set to pay £££ to be seen privately as I didn't think that mentally I could take a 2 week wait but my dr felt it and said 'look, I will refer you as we do for all lumps but I know what I'm feeling here and it isn't cancer. By all means spend your money if you want to but I'm advising you to just wait'

And thanks to her words, the terror dialled down precisely 1% and I managed to wait the ten days as it turned out

I was told at my appointment it was 'nothing' - not a cyst, just 'nothing'

It was exactly as you describe. Smooth, I could move it about. It's also called a breast mouse

So my advice is to stop poking about and just take some deep breaths. All will be well

Healthfreak95 · 14/09/2023 16:43

@sophieable hiw did this turn out? I’ve exactly the same sort of thing!!

DrLouiseJMoody · 14/09/2023 17:09

Same situation down to discovering it in the shower, although mine is larger. My GP wouldn't commit but did say she sometimes sees fibroadenomas and "moving" and "not hard" (it's sort of firm with a bit of give) "is good", and everything has to go through the clinic.

I reassure self that a whacking one inch ball that whizzes about at speed (as if my tits aren't large enough, honesttogod) and that you can grab under and pop out as well as draw a near perfect circle around is not a lump that's going to murder me.

So we have either developed a rare and exotic cancer or we're just plain neurotic.

@DrLouiseJMoody did you find out what yours was xx
