Anyone late diagnosis ADHD

Watching lots of bits online I'm sure I have ADHD.
Skipping meals, hyperactive, interrupting others feeling like my mind is racing and starting a million things at once and seeing things differently.
Has anyone had a late diagnosis as I'm in my 50s.

I went private, but in England you can use Right to Choose pathways to find the shortest wait times and access some private assessment services on the NHS.

life changing for me. Everything makes sense, and medication is useful for me.

There's a good board on Mumsnet:- Special Needs; Neurodiverse Mumsnetters

I was diagnosed a couple of months ago, I’m in my early 40s. I asked my GP to refer me. Where I live there’s a service, private but does NHS assessments. I waited 6 months which I didn’t think was too bad. They’ve arranged all my medication too.
for me, it’s been great to realise I am and the medication has been incredibly helpful. My thought process is clearer, my anxiety has improved, I’ve stopped snacking/binge eating. I’ve got more energy and I’m getting stuff done. I did have insomnia to start with but that went off.
my assessment centre recommend completing a particular form to take to your GP to ask for assessment. I will link it at the bottom.

Thank you all.
I maybe mistaken as I've been diagnosed with anxiety and depression in the past and I do keep a clean organised home.
I am able to hyper focus though and I have tons more stamina and speed than others.
There is also autism in my family.

It’s quite common to have ASD and ADHD (I have both). I’ve been diagnosed with GAD and depression in the past but I think the anxiety was down to my undiagnosed/unmanaged AuDHD and the “depression” was actually Autistic burnout.
It’s definitely worth exploring. It’s been life changing for me to get a diagnosis and meds that help! I never did well with Antidepressants.

Toobee thank you.

Diagnosed 2 weeks ago, aged 52! Also have asd. Meds have already made a big difference, and my dose doubles in Friday. I'm calmer, less anxious and can focus with less procrastination. Was also diagnosed with GAD in previous years.

Thanks for this @ThePontiacBandit. I have an appointment next Monday with my doctor to get a referral.

ThePontiacBandit · 19/10/2022 22:03

You’re welcome. Ironically I didn’t use it, but I did a webinar and they said if you were looking to get referred this was the best way to approach your GP.

I can really relate to a lot of what you're saying. I was diagnosed as an adult too, after years of being told it was just anxiety and depression. It turns out that ADHD can mimic or even contribute to both, which is why so many people go undiagnosed for so long—especially if they’re managing to keep things looking organised on the outside.
Hyperfocus, high energy, and seeing things differently are all really common in ADHD too. It’s such a mix of strengths and challenges, and it makes sense that you’re questioning it now. I found that learning more about how ADHD presents in adults (especially in women) really helped me understand myself better.
If you’re considering an assessment, ADHDdegree is where I got my late diagnosis in my 30s, and they offer private adhd adult assessments and support for adults who are figuring this out later in life. Whatever route you take, it’s definitely worth exploring—it can be such a game-changer to get clarity on how your brain works!

I've been on the waiting list a while and been contacted recently for an update hope this means soon I will find out.
