Have been sick all night and assume it's norovirus. Feeling wiped out and worrying that DD (7 months) will get it - she had diarrhoeah once yesterday and is off her food. Have any of you had to deal with a lo with it and what did you do to help them? Is there any medicine they can have?

Hello Dragthing- sorry to hear you are poorly.

Myself, partner and DS (now 13mo) all had a stomach bug in the summer. My DS didnt get the vomiting aspect but had very watery offensive nappies for about a week. My partner and I came down with after DS but we got vomiting as well as Diarrhoea.

It was not a fun weekend! Basically we laid in bed with Ds in his cot and only got up to change his nappy/ feed him or visit the loo ourselves. Luckily after about 48 hrs (D and v passed off in about 12 hrs) we felt pretty much normal.

With regard to DS, I phoned NHS direct and I found them really helpful. They told me how much milk he should be having minimum in 24 hrs (he would not take water)and told me the signs I should be looking for which were of concern. I can't remember them all but it was sunken fontanelle, crying with no tears, dry lips/skin, rash, limp etc. I was giving him milk every hour or two and although he wasn't that into it he was taking an ounce or two a time so that was ok I think. I believe you can give babies a rehydration fluid as my friends baby had the bug at the same time but went off her feeds completely, she wasseen by a Doctor who told them how/what to give etc.

Hope your little one avoids it tho and you are better soon.

Had something similar with DD at 7 months last year. Week of awful nappies, sometimes four an hour. Doctor told us to dilute her formula, so it was rehydrating her and not so milky it was upsetting her tummy. We also found a sneaky way to get water into her was to use one of those dummies that has a hole in for giving medicine, except we filled it with water and let her suck the water out. You can syringe water into her mouth like you do calpol, but that can be a bit brutal. And basically she slept in bed with me on a pile of towels so that if I heard her trying to be sick, I could pick her up quickly and help her out. Was a nightmare, tbh, but we got through it. Hope your LO doesn't get it. DH and I had something similar at Christmas but she didn't get it at all this time.
