Endoscopy - won’t allow sedation because I’m breastfeeding??

I’ve got to go for an endoscopy to look in my stomach and they are saying they won’t allow me to have any sedation because I’m breastfeeding. But from my research it’s perfectly safe to have light sedative and breastfeed as soon as you feel awake enough afterwards? Has anyone had an endoscopy without sedative and was it ok? I’m thinking I’ll hopefully be able to cope but I’ve read a few horror stories and am worried that they are completely refusing sedation for it.

@loveisanopensore they said if I had sedation I ‘wouldn’t be able to look after my baby for 24 hours’ which sounds like total nonsense because you are up and about after 30-60 minute?! And also said it’ll get in my milk and affect my baby. Which again is untrue. I think I’ll put in a complaint to be honest just to highlight the total lack of knowledge they have.

I was out of it for a few hours. Came home went to bed and slept. I had the amnesia type sedation. So I would have someone around afterwards

Absolutely barbaric. No way would I do this.

They’re making ridiculous excuses to save themselves time and hassle, and fuck the patient’s comfort. Clap, clap. 🙄

@Greybeardy I told them several times that my husband would be with me all the time for 24 hours afterwards so they know I won’t be in sole charge of the baby. They also know my baby is way over 6 weeks.

I feel like it is more about their convenience to be honest. I think I’m going to cancel it and speak to my GP. I really don’t want it done without sedation. Especially having read the other thread that was linked earlier 😵‍💫

Don’t cancel, why should you? Pump some milk and tell them you won’t be feeding for 24 hours. But put in a complaint because what they are claiming is nonsense. They should be practicing evidence based medicine.

In my experience they won’t sedate unless it’s been planned in advance (because they can’t just bundle you out of the door afterwards). So you may need to reschedule.

The presumption should be in favour of sedation imo.

I've had several without sedation and have been fine, but I understand that for others it is different.

Can you have someone with you afterwards if you get them to agree to sedation?
