Prostap to stop periods - will a gap be a problem?

Long story short, large fibroids, waiting for hysterectomy since June, no idea when it will happen. Prostap was supposed to stop my periods but they also put me on norethisterone, and every time I stop that I start bleeding, so I have been on norethisterone too since June.

My question: will a gap in the Prostap injections matter? My consultant letter said to give me a 1month one, then in 4/52 give me a 3 month one and repeat in 3/12, which I took to mean was 3 months not 12 weeks, so I booked 18 Oct because last one was 18 July. I have since seen people say docs have told them it must be 12 weeks exactly, and of course I'll be more like 13. And NOW I have blinking covid, going to ring surgery today but there's no way the'll have me in this week, I shall have to hope they have an appointment next week, and that'll be 14 weeks at least. Assumed norethisterone would hold me but I'm bleeding today... 😭

(I've posted on here about this before under Zoladex, but have made a new thread because I've discovered I'm on Prostap despite consultant etc calling it Zoladex. Think it's the same thing. @ConfusedGin, how are you doing, any surgery date yet?)

So, I totally missed this was a new thread... sorry!

Because I am naturally inquisitive, I have to look into these things and it does appear that they are just different brands of the same thing. I can't comment on the impact of missing an injection (hope covid wasn't too bad for you and you've had it now in any case).

I've seen with prostap you may get some breakthrough bleeding so maybe it's that?! I hope so, for your sake.

With Zoladex it can be up to 12 weeks after the treatment that periods return. It sounds lovely but only if it was without the hot flushes and night sweats (neither helped by my annual cold I'm sure). I've taken to wearing a vest top to the office in the middle of winter as it's the only way I can cope with the heating!

Op is - allegedly, no written confirmation yet but through pre op - next month. 51 weeks after my appointment with the consultant to discuss options.

@ConfusedGin wow that has been a long wait for you. I am still clinging to the hope that mine will be this year, like they said, but we are running out of year...

Yes, I think Prostap is the same as Zoladex. It hasn't stopped me bleeding, I haven't been able to get off the norethisterone. But I'm plodding along for now. The covid was mercifully mild, and the nurse did my implant anyway, bless her, in an isolation room in full PPE. Really hope I didn't pass it. I was right on the tail end of it so I hope not. I stood outside in the car park until the last possible moment, stepped in, had it done, stepped out again, was less than 30 seconds.

So excited that you're finally going to get sorted! Hope it goes really well, do share if you'd like to when you're all done 💜

@Lula74 I'm not celebrating just yet - although I have a date, I've also been told that myomectomies and hysterectomies have been cancelled at short notice in the last few weeks as a result of the blood shortage. I will not count any chickens.

Luckily (?) my annual cold turned out to be covid - my first time. I'm sort of relieved that I've got it now with time to recover properly before the planned op date. I was sure that my luck would mean I'd get it right before my surgery. And they wouldn't do that like they did your injection!

I hope the bleeding stops soon. I've had some very light spotting but nothing else since early September now and it's the best.

@ConfusedGin strangely enough, I was also delighted to have got Covid now, in the hope that it now can't scupper my chances if I do get an opt date! And I had had a flu jab, so fingers crossed! I really hope you get to go ahead and get sorted and can get on with the life after! 💜

@Lula74 Apparently the recommendation is not to have surgery within 7 weeks of covid infection. As this is major surgery and less than 4 weeks, I think it's realistic that they will try and push it back. I just hope that it's not by too much.

Lula74 · 29/10/2022 15:19

@ConfusedGin Wha???? Sheesh after all this waiting...

Think I am unlikely to get there in the next five weeks though, so I shan't panic. Hope it doesn't delay you too much.

Feeling low today. Worked 20h this weekend and although it’s a desk job it’s high pressure. Deeply uncomfortable/pain sitting for hours, and now bleeding again. Got another late shift tonight. I’m just so tired of it all and so tired of waiting and being exhausted and in pain and scared. I can’t keep harassing the lovely secretary. GP has written twice asking to expedite me and nothing. I just feel like there’s nothing I can do except wait. Just needed to get that off my chest here, I don’t want to keep boring my friends and family…
