Tired

i seem to wake up just feeling tired and with a headache most of the time. No matter how much sleep I get. My diet is not the best but not horrific. All tests are fine at doctors.

do you think I should try a multivitamin? I used to go to the gym a lot but then started a very manual job and just tired from that. I’ve been though a very stressful time in my life and wonder if I’m mentally tired?

any suggestions?

Are you overweight? Do you snore? If you share a bed, ask your partner if they ever hear silence and then you gasping for breath in the night. This situation is caused by the soft palate flopping across the airway during the night, temporarily blocking it (hence the silence), followed by you semi-waking, gasping for breath and then immediately falling asleep again. It's a condition called obstructive sleep apnoea, and the semi-wake-ups can happen many times each night (although affected individuals don't usually remember them in the morning), which can leave you feeling tired and
headachey.

If this sounds like a possibility, see your GP - there is lots that can be done to improve the situation.

You could have stress headaches. In which case, you're right, just sleep without resolving the stressful situation will not stop them.

Someone else mentioned sleep apnea which is a good shout. You said you get sleep. How is the quality of your sleep? When you wake, do you get up? Or go right back to sleep?

BIWI · 18/10/2022 10:12

When you say My diet is not the best but not horrific what do you mean by that?

Stress will also definitely be having an impact on you - what do you do to relax/de-stress? I know you say you have a more manual job, but a bit of exercise will help you here.

Also, you could consider taking a high strength Vitamin D supplement - as well as going out for a walk in daylight hours.

How much water/fluid are you drinking a day?

Thankyou, I wake maybe a couple of times in the night, around 3am, I can get back off to sleep but need to write a list of stuff that’s on my mind or my mind just won’t switch off

it seems to be after I’ve become a single parent and trying to juggle everything. I seem very awake at night time then can hardly get out of bed in the morning, I feel like I’m not going into a deep sleep

Thankyou! I will look into the vitamin. D, I don’t do anything to de-stress to be honest, one of my children really struggles with bedtime and every evening I end up just going to bed at the same time as the kids. I just tend to eat their left overs as I just try to make sure all their needs are met and then I end up not bothering with myself, struggling a bit after becoming a single parent, I think maybe it’s time to have a little reassessment as I think things are taking a toll a bit. I probably drink far too much coffee

i used to teach classes at the gym and haven’t been able to do it anymore due to evening childcare, so I think missing that has had an impact both mentally and physically

I sound like I’m totally just complaining

Have you considered that you might also be suffering from depression?

I take medication for anxiety, but I suppose I’ve never really considered depression, I feel quite numb to be honest, but thinks that’s the anxiety medication. I’ve been through a horrendous divorce after finding out my husband was having an affair and my emotions haven’t switched back on again, I don’t feel down, I don’t feel happy I just feel nothing at all

... which does sound like depression!

TBH I think you need a trip to your GP to check all of these things out, and see what their advice is.

Bobbybobbins · 18/10/2022 14:23

Slightly random suggestion but could you be dehydrated? I need to drink a glass of water before bed to avoid waking up v dehydrated and headachy

jollyroll · 18/10/2022 20:25

I agree with BIWI. Hope you feel better soon, OP.

Whatsnextfor · 18/10/2022 23:42

Thankyou ladies for the advice, I think it’s worth going to see the gp as mentioned and to make an effort to drink a decent amount of water and probably some other changes, I feel like I’ve been operating on autopilot and kind of just let myself go

I think waking up tired and with a headache might be due to caffeine withdrawal.

Do you feel better after having a coffee?
