Called for f2f appointment after biopsy - bad news?

I've been called back for a f2f appointment following a breast biopsy due to finding a (very) small lump. Radiographer didnt seem concerned but recommended biopsy. had a call booking in a f2f for next friday and so terrified I can barely function. My mum died of breast cancer. Is this normal to book in f2f? Should i be reassured by the radiographers comments? Or should I be worried? Wouldn't they tell me over the phone if it was all clear?!

I can only tell you my own experience which was that I had a telephone appointment to tell me that my breast lump was all fine.
I hope it all goes ok for you

When DH had a scan that was not good news he was told to bring someone to support him (this was in the height of the first lockdown), could you call them and ask if you should bring a friend? I will keep everything crossed for you.

I think it's difficult to say. It may indicate it's cancer, but they may be calling you in for another reason. There's a cancer thread in this general health section, come and chat to us if you want to, we all know what this bit feels like Flowers

It may be a cyst that requires further treatment or removal. Don’t panic at this stage. 💐

I had a very small lump which was cancer but early stage and very treatable. No chemo just a lumpectomy and short course of radiotherapy. Easy to say but try not to panic. There are so many things it could be but so easy to jump to worse case scenario.

MintJulia · 14/10/2022 19:48

Don't panic OP. Either way, you need to know and if there is anything that needs dealing with, the sooner the better.

I agree, call and ask if you can take someone with you. My experience, (mine was positive) I was advised to take someone with me, because it can be hard to take it all in. But they haven't advised that with you.

It is good news that they have called you back
Called in for results 2 weeks later which was cancelled on the day as consultant had buggered off on holiday and have been unable to either get another one or the results.

Chased several times- assume its ok- so maybe having an apointment doesn't mean it is bad.

Elphame · 14/10/2022 20:43

I've been called in several times for biopsy results just to be told all is fine. The first time I worried myself sick. Now I only worry a little bit.

It doesn't necessarily indicate bad news.

I think it can be normal I had a biopsy on Tuesday and I've already received a appointment for the 26th for my results face to face.

Even though all the doctors and the doctor who did my ultrasound said they are 99% sure it will all be normal and it's standard procedure at the hospital I'm at to do a biopsy.

Hope it's good news for you the waiting is the worst x

JustDanceAddict · 15/10/2022 07:08

Its standard to go in where I live. I did and it was good news. I had the appt arranged before I left after the biopsy. I took dh with - I recommend it for nerves more than anything else!

mummyh2016 · 15/10/2022 07:14

How long ago did you have the biopsy?
I had one for a mole and I was sent in for a f2f appointment and I had the all clear. This was a few years ago though.

MrsMontyD · 15/10/2022 11:07

It may be pre cancerous cells, it may be a cyst that needs treatment, it may just be something they want to keep an eye on, all would need a face to face consultant appointment, even confirmation that it's just a fatty lump should have a face to face appointment ideally, especially for someone with a close family history.

I'm going in for a lumpectomy next week, the radiographer who did my biopsy told me my mass (found on a routine, thankfully early mammogram) was small and treatable but she was certain it was cancer and the breast care nurse confirmed it when I asked. It's not an official diagnosis until it's confirmed by the biopsy results but I was 95% sure what it was before I left on the day of the biopsy.

BG2015 · 15/10/2022 13:30

I found a lump last June and went for an examination, mammogram and ultrasound on the two week pathway.

I was there for 3 hours and had a biopsy. I was told at the end by a breast care nurse that they were pretty sure that it was cancer and had to stop taking my HRT a immediately.

It was confirmed 2 weeks later once the biopsy results were in but they knew by the shape of the tumour that it was cancer.

Hi how did you get on at your appointment ? I know this is a old post but I'm going through similar and was just wondering how the face 2 face went ? Xx
