It takes one minute to register online as an organ donor. I've just done it. Will you?

While the country farts about deciding whether or not to make organ donation after death an opt-out rather than an opt-in.....

Google NHS Organ Donor Register and offer your bits.

My dad's the recipient of a donated kidney which saved him hours of peritoneal dialysis each day and my daughter has cystic fibrosis and may one day need a lung transplant. So it's something I feel quite passionate about.

'Why take your organs with you when you go? Heaven knows we need them here' etc etc

JingleyJen · 26/01/2008 22:09

Fireflyfairy2 · 26/01/2008 22:14

Done ages ago

whomovedmychocolate · 26/01/2008 22:15

Or even better, click this link and do it online now!

choccypig · 26/01/2008 22:21

Already had a card, (where is it ??) but done on line - it took all of 2 minutes.
Does anyone know if there something like a wristband, keyring tag or something so the emergency services would know immediately? Could it be made a fashionable tattoo?

ALSO it's very important, to make sure your nearest and dearest know your wishes. Because at present next-of-kin have to give consent at the last minute so to speak, and if they haven't thought about it beforehand, they can be very upset.

Another thing, you are never too old, heard about a 93 year old womans corneas being used to give sight to two people.

kentgirl73 · 26/01/2008 22:32

Just done it too!!! We need to spread the word, so easy!!!

paros · 26/01/2008 22:40

I've just done it too - been meaning to do it for years, but somehow never got round to it.

misdee · 27/01/2008 08:51

Thanks Janni. I registered years ago, as have my dd's, dd1 made the decision herself at 6 years old. She is now almost 8, and last summer saw how amazing organdonation is when dh received a donor heart. since then he has been able to take the girls out places, has been to the zoo twice with them, taken dd3 to the pool, walks place with us all, and generally enjoys life.

spicemonster · 27/01/2008 08:54

I was already registered but have registered my DS (which made me cry) as he's too young to decide now. I hope when he's old enough he will want to continue. Thanks for the reminder.

cluckyagain · 27/01/2008 08:55

Have the card - have now registered online. I just have to convince my dh now! Can you register children?

misdee · 27/01/2008 08:56

yes clucky you can.

shabster · 27/01/2008 09:09

About to do it now. 15 years ago my 7 yr old DS was killed by a reversing lorry. When we got to the hospital I had to PRESSURE the nurse to tell the doctor DS carried a donor card. They looked at me as tho I had just landed in a spaceship. After 15 mins of me wailing and telling them to do something DS donated his corneas - I am so proud that he carried a card. Must admit he got one because he said he only had a little willy and was hoping one day there would be willy donations! Yes I know, a funny little star! Two children can see now because of my lovely lad.

shabster · 27/01/2008 11:29

Done it - thanks for the prompt to get on the donor register Janni xx

nannyL · 27/01/2008 13:08

did ages ago... about the time the register started actually

and in 16 weeks i will become a silver blood donor having donated 25 pints of blood, aged 27

Beckster99 · 31/01/2008 01:06

Thanks for this suggestion, have had paper application for over a year and not managed to send it off; what with IVF, twin pregnancy and now 7 week old babies ..... really pleased this took 2 mins and will pass round the word.

brightwell · 31/01/2008 07:03

Did it years ago and both dc are registered, we've talked about it, in the past I'd opted for their eyes not be taken. (Even though I know they can harvest so much from eyes) Dd 13 has since decided she would like her eyes to be used.
