Heard something interesting about allergies, but struggling to word the title!

Basically what it was saying that if a baby who has a nut allergy (for example) encounters nuts for the first time, they won't have a reaction, but their antibodies or whatever(they explained it better) will be reacting.

Then the second time the baby encounters nuts will be the time they react badly.

I thought this was interesting because I know a lot of parents (and have seen posts on here) who have watched their child closely the first time they give them nuts, then when they have been fine, presumed they are not allergic.

Hope this makes sense, not feeling very articulate tonight.

Does make sense - the first encounter 'sensitises' you, then you react more the next time, can happens with wasp stings etc as well, and antibiotics.

Always seemed mad that sometimes Dr's give the first dose of IV antibiotics then nurses give the later ones - the first one will most likely be fine!

I currently have a kiwi fruit in the kitchen that I'm wondering whether to let 10mo DD try, apparently it's a popular thing to be allergic to these days...

i didnt know this till recently.as im careful with mine with nuts coz im terrified theyll have same nut allergy as my granddad.but if it mised me,my sisters,my mum,her siblings does it mean it very unlikely mine will have it.dd and ds1 are ok with them.but havennt tried ds2

Well, you knew what I meant
Neither me nor DH are allergicky so I will proceed with the kiwi...

Obviously allergicky is the hi tech term for atopy/hayfever/asthma/eczema type things in our 2 nurse household lol
