What have you tried? I can offer diclofenac and tramadol.

Karen999 · 26/01/2008 19:24

Paramol as it has codeine in....quite strong but worked for me....have to ask for them at the pharmacy.

southeastastra · 26/01/2008 19:29

You can take paracetamol alternately with ibuprofen - ie. each one every four hours, so you can take something every two hours. I would think that ibuprofen might work better. Some people swear by putting a soluble aspirin against the sore tooth and letting it dissolve.

Smamfa · 26/01/2008 19:32

nurofen is supposed to be good. I remember alternating paracetmol and nurofen after the butcher of norwich yanked my wisdoms out.

Smamfa · 26/01/2008 19:33

oh, she beat me to it.

southeastastra · 26/01/2008 19:34

ok have some soluble asprins too. have a foul taste in my mouth too, that's awful.

always on a sat night

Oil of Cloves is amazing - you should be able to get it at the Pharmacy. You put a drop straight on the tooth. Just make sure that you are seeing a dentist about the cause of the toothache.

SaltireOShanter · 26/01/2008 19:36

Clove oil is good. I also like Panadol extra

saffy202 · 26/01/2008 19:36

I was once told by the emergency dentist to take two paracetamol and two nurofen plus, together. It fixed it.

southeastastra · 26/01/2008 19:39

Your dentist should have an out of hours service for emergencies - they will prob have a number on their answerphone!

southeastastra · 26/01/2008 19:54

i just called them herecomethegirls there is a number if it gets any more unbearable. i'm rubbing white wine on it atm . i've even googled how to remove your own teeth but that put me off.

poor southeastastra. would recommend diclofenac / ibuprofen, codeine (or anything containing it) and paracetamol. Read your info, as long as you haven't got asthma then you can take all of these together - well not in a big handful but ya know what i mean? Have recently had surgery on teeth/jaw and you have my sympathy. If you've got an emergency dentist, try that - and if you haven't, then get to the out-of-hours doctor cos at least you can sort the pain relief.

HereComeTheGirls · 26/01/2008 20:57

southeastastra - I would call them, at the very least they might give you a prescription for antibiotics which you can get first thing in the morning. It's not likely to get any less painful overnight.

saffy202 · 26/01/2008 23:00

Try and get some Nurofen Plus tomorrow. You need to get it from over the counter. I rang the emergency dentists, crying and begging them to take the tooth out. I was all ready to pull it myself. Took the above with paracetamol and 4 years later, I still have the tooth.

southeastastra · 27/01/2008 10:42

just called emergency dentist, which was nhs direct who questioned me for 10 mins they said someone will call me within the hour.

tooth doesn't seem to bad today but the bone around it hurts and the taste is getting worse. feel all shivery too. grr wish it was monday and i could just get some antibiocs from dentist.
