Hi everyone I've been giving a blood pressure monitor from gp for a week i'm quite young in my twenties but have gained a lot of weight since having my baby He’s 1years old now

I've been tracking my blood pressure and I've noticed so far for two dates my blood pressure is normal in the mornings and at night it's more higher I'll normal get readings of

117/75
Or 120/75 in the mornings
This morning I even got 109/69
These are taken before I've eaten btw

And in the night its 123/75 or 119/85 or 121/81
These are an hour or 30min after eating dinner

What do you guys think ?! X

Why did your GP ask you to monitor your BP and what did they ask you to look out for? Those seem pretty tiny variations to me - blood pressure naturally varies and the machines don't have brilliant accuracy and can give false readings if the cuff isn't well placed.

tobee · 11/10/2022 21:21

They're all pretty good readings I think?

Lots of things can cause small bumps in your blood pressure. I think I read somewhere that, for eg, needing a wee.

sunshineeestarr · 11/10/2022 21:50

@UnaOfStormhold they didn't ask I asked I noticed everytime i went for an appointment it was kind of raised and it drew my attention so I asked them if we could have it monitored

They're good readings, why are you worried?

Take it 3x a day before eating. Feet on the floor and back supported, make sure you don't need a wee. Disregard the first reading and do it again a minute later.

A one off reading doesn't mean anything, they will look at the average over the week.

DramaAlpaca · 12/10/2022 01:01

There is nothing wrong with those readings. They are absolutely normal and nothing to worry about.

AuntTwacky · 12/10/2022 01:03

Those readings are fine

Jigsawsandcoffee · 12/10/2022 01:17

My blood pressure is higher when I measure it in front of the GP. I think it is called white coat syndrome, something like that.

Yes, that's why you disregard your first reading too.

Samarie123 · 12/10/2022 08:40

Nothing wrong with those readings at all.

Azerothi · 12/10/2022 08:43

Do you have health anxiety? As those are perfect readings.

I agree. Sounds like the OP has health anxiety.

sunshineeestarr · 12/10/2022 09:42

When I put them in the nhs blood pressure reading calculator it says pre high so that's why I was concerned

Pre high, so normal?

But that's nothing to be concerned about. UK Blood Pressure advice you to retest IN A YEAR if you get a normal-high reading.

Do you actually understand what you're doing OP? I'd suggest you read up first if you're going to try and interpret your readings:

www.bloodpressureuk.org/your-blood-pressure/how-to-lower-your-blood-pressure/monitoring-your-blood-pressure-at-home/how-to-measure-your-blood-pressure-at-home/

Failing that, stop worrying (or it'll raise your blood pressure) and let your GP do the analysis at the end of your week.

cptartapp · 12/10/2022 14:57

Nurse here. They're fine.
Put the machine away.

CornishGem1975 · 13/10/2022 10:21

I'd be over the moon with those readings, there's nothing wrong.

Mine sit at around 140/85 as an average at the moment and that's with medication to bring it down!

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 13/10/2022 10:53

I'm on BP medication, your readings are what I aim for.
