Hi,
Quick dental treatment question. I broke a tooth (back of the mouth, lower jaw) Dentist commented that I’d lost a lot of it, she’d do a temporary filling and we’d look at further treatment.
I told her I was really nervous about treatment and she was very reassuring.
When she dried it with cotton wool rolls I’m ashamed to say I sort of squeaked in pain, she acknowledged my pain levels and then proceeded to put in a massive temporary filling without any form of anaesthesia. It was freezing cold stuff and so painful on - presumably - the nerve? I thought I was going to hit the ceiling!
I'm really not usually a wuss, pain tolerance wise. But the pain was so intense that I felt shaky afterwards.
The filling is now ok, but I’m avoiding eating on it and brushing it very carefully because if I catch it at the wrong angle it sends a sharp pain through it, so presumably it’s going to need replacing soon. Tbh I’m terrified of going back! I’ve always been a bit wary of the dentist, but the one I used to have has retired early and this is a new one.
Is it standard practice to fill broken teeth with no anaesthesia? Tbf there was no drilling involved, so it may just be me needing to get a grip 😂
TIA for any advice you can give.
