hi, i've been reading your comments on cholestasis, i had a blood test for it at 35 weeks and the midwife said she'd contact me if there was a problem - she didn't. At my 41 week check they noticed CHOLESTASIS written in big red letters and surrounded by stars on my notes. they were immediatly concerned for my baby and induced me. its only now (8 months later) that i've realised how serious it it. does anyone know if there are long term risks???? i can't believe that my son could have died because the midwife 'forgot' to call me with my results

No. No long term effects at all. The only problem with cholestasis is the high risk of stillbirth, so you are fine now.
The Vit k is only for you and the baby at birth - the cholestasis stops your blood from effectively absorbing natural vit k, but as soon as you have given birth both you and the baby can do this.

Your only problem will come if you have another baby. If you ahve had OC in your first pregnancy you are 90% likely to get it in your next. YOu should mention it to your doctor, and should really be looked after by a consultant as well as a midwife. From 26 weeks or so you should ask for regular LFT's and be aware of any itching.

I can believe your story only too well. It is frightening to know how many midwives and doctors still fail to treat this condition properly, or even know any facts about it. But you were lucky. Congratulations on your ds btw
