Prednisone

Been prescribed short course for 5 days of prednisone. Am on Fostair inhaler and have mild bronchiectasis following pneumonia a few years ago. Usually asthma well controlled but a virus has kicked it off and I’ve been struggling all week.
Just wondering how long it takes prednisone to kick in? Had the first lot of 8 tablets this morning at 8am 😬

I don’t know, but I do know it’s called “Prednisolone”

It usually works pretty quick. It is called Prednisolone in the UK and prednisone in the States, still the same thing.

My son has had a few courses of 8 weeks of steroids and mostly they work quickly.

You should see improvement pretty much right away OP, certainly within a couple of days
@CanIBeElectric2 not helpful, why be a dick?

MrsPatrickDempsey · 08/10/2022 13:12

Usually very quickly. I normally start feeling better after the second dose.

It can be either name.

Thanks - hopefully will see some improvement tomorrow. I don’t care what it’s called as long as it works 😵‍💫

I've taken it long term for Rheumatoid arthritis and short term for asthma / brochiectasis. In my experience it kicks in very quickly, within hours. Might keep you awake at night after 8mg. I presume it's tapered down?

AnnaMagnani · 08/10/2022 14:02

It works like a flipping miracle. Usually amazingly better within 48 hours.

For a 5 day course you don't taper at the end.

Allfurcoatandnoknickers · 08/10/2022 15:00

Only 7 hours since my first dose. Just had a sleep and can feel a very slight improvement in my breathing. Hoping tomorrow after second dose will be feeling a lot better.
