I’ve been suffering with the following symptoms (listed below) whenever I travel home from work. I don’t notice them on the way to work which is a bit odd. I leave my house at 6am. They’ve been happening for over 2 years. I’ve had blood tests for vitamin D, b12, diabetes, iron etc. the GP can’t find the cause. I think I drink enough during the day however my workplace is extremely hot so I might be dehydrated. Is there a way to check?

I get the bus and it takes 30 minutes. I get a headachy feeling behind the eyes. This turns into nausea as well, I then get a train which is another 30 minutes. When I get home and relax I feel fine. I’m seriously wondering if I’m getting travel sickness or motion sickness. I have been off work recently and I got on a bus for the first time in a long time yesterday and it happened to me again. Has anyone else had this?

What do you do on the bus/train?
Do you read/spend time looking down at your phone?
Have you had a sight test recently?

Autumnhasarrived2022 · 04/10/2022 19:14

I’ve never had my eyes tested actually. Also if I look at my phone I feel sick/fuzzy behind the eyes. So I try to just look out of the window or just sit there doing nothing.

The train is not as bad, the bus makes me feel worse.

If it's not happening at any other time, then I'd eliminate travel sickness before seeing a GP - pick up some travel sickness pills and test it out!

Autumnhasarrived2022 · 04/10/2022 19:29

I didn’t even know you could get pills. I’ll pop into the pharmacy tomorrow thank you.

Yes, there's a few options - www.boots.com/health-pharmacy/travel-health/travel-sickness but have a chat with the pharmacist as some have to be taken several hours before travel and others can make you drowsy (although they never affected me). They'll talk you through it all.

I am very sensitive to motion and often feel queasy if travelling. That is a lot of different modes if transport one after another. I would need to take a mild motion sickness tablet or possibly a wristband if needed relief regularly.

Thanks guys. Off to the pharmacy tomorrow as I’ve got other meds to collect so hopefully they can give me something fingers crossed. If this is it… I can’t believe I’ve been suffering for so many years. There have been times when I thought I would throw up on public transport.

Sounds like motion sickness to me

I get motion sickness. I'm best next in the aisle seat and I stare straight ahead and try not to move too much.
