Cut foot on glass at resort while pregnant - what do I do?

I'm in a bit of a panic here. I'm 30 weeks pregnant. We are currently staying at a butlins resort (we arrived last night) and I just walked into the kitchen area and a small sharp shard of glass went through my sock into my foot. It was quite small but my foot bled a lot ! I pulled it out with my fingers and cleaned it it's stopped bleeding now but I'm worried if this could become infected ?

We haven't used any cutlery as are all inclusive dining so not sure where the glass has come from and worried it could be dirty. Do i need to do anything? My partner is telling me not to worry but it's giving me anxiety. My toddler is here too so going to have to give the floor a good clean now.

So long as you’ve cleaned it well it’s unlikely it’ll be a problem. You really don’t need to worry but if it starts to look infected then do what you would do at home and speak to a GP.

CrookCrane · 04/10/2022 11:13

I wouldn’t worry if it were me. I’d keep it covered with a plaster for a few days to keep it clean and think no more about it personally.

MassiveSalad22 · 04/10/2022 11:22

You don’t do anything really. You’ve done it already - cleaned it, cleaned the floor. What more is there to to? Nothing IMO.

PinkButtercups · 04/10/2022 11:26

If you're worried get their on site first aider to take a look. There is one on site 24/7.

inigomontoyahwillcox · 04/10/2022 11:31

Are you up to date with your tetanus? If so then I would just clean it with an antiseptic wash/wipe and cover it for a few days. Otherwise see if there is a minor injuries close by (and if not, the closest primary care centre - which may be A&E) and go and get one (they are safe to have in pregnancy).

If it becomes inflamed, develops pus, redness around the cut, or any tracking (red streak coming from the cut towards the heart) then it may indicate it has become infected and you would need to get it seen to.

PandaOrLion · 04/10/2022 11:39

I had my tetanus at the same time as my whooping cough - have you had that?

Tbh though I wouldn’t give it another thought, but having had tetanus might reassure you if you need it.

Thefaceofboe · 04/10/2022 12:04

Yeah as pp said if you’ve had the whooping cough vaccine it’s also combined with tetanus, so I wouldn’t worry about it otherwise

Mochacino · 04/10/2022 12:05

clean it.

if you’ve concerns there’s glass in there you’ll need an X-ray to exclude. it’ll be a reasonably low dose of radiation. Tetanus wise, I’m making a broad assumption you’re probably in your 30s and have had all your childhood vaccinations and potentially a booster. Ask your GP when you get home if you feel you need a booster.
does it need stitched? If not, keep clean, cover with a plaster and keep an eye for red/hot/swollen as PP have mentioned. GP or local MIU for antibiotics if it looks infected .

secretskillrelationships · 04/10/2022 12:11

It’s unlikely to be a risk for tetanus or infection as it bled a lot, effectively rising out the wound. If you’re worried and it would help, get it checked out as suggested by PP. Otherwise, cover and keep an eye on it. If it becomes red, inflamed (swollen) or feels warmer to the touch, seek medical advice. Otherwise try and relax and enjoy your holiday.

Floralnomad · 04/10/2022 12:13

Do whatever you would do if you were at home or is your question regarding how you sue Butlins for your injury .

Dinoteeth · 04/10/2022 12:21

Clean it as you would with any other wound, antiseptic wipes / cream.
Get your DP to clean it I'm just thinking at 30 weeks seeing the bottom of your foot won't be easy. Or get one of their first aiders to have a look at it.

I don't know that it's something you could claim butlins for.

monkeyupsidedown · 04/10/2022 14:15

It's good that it bled a lot, that makes it a higher chance that any nasties were eemoved by the flow of the blood.

LIZS · 04/10/2022 14:24

Might be worth a trip to minor injuries to check nothing is left in and give it a clean. When was your last anti-tetanus jab?

Mistywindow · 04/10/2022 14:42

Definitely go to A&E and contact one of those no win no fee solicitors and start the compensation train.

Seriously, keep an eye on it, you’ll likely be fine and healed very soon.

meatballsoup · 04/10/2022 14:44

Put a plaster on to cushion it a little & go about your day?

Tetanus needs to be renewed to be effective, having one jab as a child isn’t enough.

saleorbouy · 04/10/2022 14:47

Report it to the management and ask for a first aider to clean the wound.
I'd also request that house keeping vacuum the room.
Keep an eye on the cut, bathe with salt water and I'm sure it'll be fine.

Singleandproud · 04/10/2022 14:49

Bit of salon and a plaster and I'd not give it another thought.

If you've got a hoover in the accommodation give the floor a good going over or ask reception to send housekeeping up

Singleandproud · 04/10/2022 14:49

A&E..... are you having a laugh, it's a minor cut.
As for the compo claim, it's attitudes like yours that make insurance ridiculously expensive for leisure businesses.

saleorbouy · 04/10/2022 14:53

@Mistywindow

I've just re-read you post and have seen the sarcasm..... sorry!
Initially I saw A&E and immediately went WTF!

2bazookas · 04/10/2022 15:18

Butlins has a first-aid officer who can clean disinfect and dress your foot. Inform them right away. Butlins is also responsible for cleaning the floor.

If you got all the glass out there's very unlikely to be any further problems.

LeafHunter · 04/10/2022 16:37

DeeofDenmark · 04/10/2022 14:45

Tetanus needs to be renewed to be effective, having one jab as a child isn’t enough.

The OP says she is pregnant and therefore will have been offered her whooping cough vaccine at about 25 weeks - so in the last couple of months.

Cas112 · 04/10/2022 16:42

You should be fine especially if you had your tetanus at time of whooping cough vaccine

Cas112 · 04/10/2022 16:43

@DeeofDenmark op is pregnant so should have had another tetanus jab
