Petechiae or cherry angioma? Talk me down

Having a bit of a moment - due to see GP in a week and I’ll raise it then but just looking for some reassurance in the meantime.

I have just seen lots of red pin prick dots on my upper thighs and torso (maybe 15 on each thigh and 10 on torso) Honestly they could have been there ages but now I’ve noticed them I keep spotting lots more. They vary in size from bright red dots (like with a red biro) to bigger ones a couple of mm in size. The vast majority are raised above the skin but the teeny ones are flat. They don’t blanch. They aren’t in a cluster so much as dotted around randomly. Some of them have sort of joined up to form a bigger raised mound.

I’ve been struggling with inner ear issues since Covid and am on doxycycline at the moment for otitis externa (they wouldn’t give me drops as couldn’t see me in person). I’ve also had lots of dry skin around my eyes and occasional pink eye.

I’ve got myself worried that these spots are petechiae! No other symptoms, no bleeding or fatigue etc. I found cherry angiomas online and thought it might be that? I’m late 30s. Will try and attach photos. They are all the same bright red.

Thanks @AriettyHomily and @Tanfastic cant believe how common it is. Are yours all different sizes too? I wonder if pregnancy triggered mine too.

I've got loads that have developed over the last 20 years or so. The biggest is about 5mm and slightly raised but the vast majority are 1mm or smaller.

I don't have any other conditions that I'm aware of but do have very, very pale sensitive skin. My dad has similar skin and similar angiomas so I assumed they were related.

Perfectly normal cherry angiomas. I have a generous and ever-increasing sprinkling of them. My triggers are pregnancies, age and genetics. Photos show flat ones on my arm and a raised one 6 my leg. The raised one was colourless for many years and suddenly turned red. Taking the photo, I see I have sprouted another crop of flat pinprick angiomas near the raised one. I see a dermatologist once a year for a different condition, so my moles/freckles/angiomas/rashes get looked at every so often. Dermatologist is never at all concerned by the angiomas, other than to reassure me that they're a non-issue and that he won't do anything about them. I may bring them up again next time, because the raised one under my bra is sometimes irritated by the bra.

@ditalini thanks for your response. I’m very very fair too which I guess makes them easier to see, especially when they are on your radar!

I really appreciate you posting a picture @Dilbertian, mine look identical to yours. So reassuring.

Thanks lovely mumsnetters 🙂

Thank you! I had a hysterectomy five years ago! These spots were starting to worry me as I am only 36 years old. I stopped taking my menopause vitamins and now I think I’ll be starting HRT ASAP 🙌🏻🥰

Hi,

I came across your post I know its from a while back but did you get an answer from your GP?
I have quite bad health anxiety after having my little girl (almost 7) before this i was always ok. but i have this on the top half of my body, not sure how long they have been there but now I've noticed them im quite panicked. iv seen my GP who has assured me they are nothing but im convincing myself it is something more serious , however they look exactly like your image.

Sorry not the best photos as they are in an awkward place near my breast area

@PanicLady mine are just cherry angioma and nothing to worry about. Yours look the same! Slightly raised red spots (some of mine are minuscule but once I noticed one I noticed what felt like 100s)

Health anxiety is horrendous so sending a hand hold. It doesn’t look like you have anything to worry about though x

I know this is an old post but @SophiaLarsen I've got something similar buy I've been to nurse practitioner and GP and they say mine are cherry angiomas which some do look like bit others look different more like yours. I'm 46 and my anxiety is so bad this last 3 months. What do you think ladies will attach photos. I have them on torso, arms, one on one hand and a couple on my legs. The tiny ones are quite faint but not going away.
