How do you stop them?! Driving be mad. Had daily since about feb. It stopped randomly for about 6 weeks but has come back in last few weeks. ECG clear. Annoyingly the 24hr monitor was on during the period they had stopped so no further action as far as docs concerned. I am 47 & assuming it's peri-meno related. I just want it to stop. Doc gave me proproponal but it doesn't work, just makes me light headed. Started taking magnesium this week. Wacked up the hrt too...Any other suggestions??!

No alcohol, decaf tea and coffee seemed to help me, but they got worse again after a second bout of covid.

twordle · 02/10/2022 20:35

Interestingly, mine started a week after my covid jab... I barely drink alcohol but going totally decaf horrifies me! Usually have 2-3 coffees a day..

Is your iron low? I always get palpitations when my ferritin is low.

staryellow · 02/10/2022 20:37

Mine turned out to be anxiety related. Is there anything you're worried about, any looming deadlines at work or anything? Mine went (touch wood) once I sorted it the cause of my anxiety

twordle · 02/10/2022 20:42

No anxiety & taking iron supplants as doc did say iron was a little low. Not so bad that they prescribed me the strong stuff tho, just says to get some from chemist. I'm beyond caring what the root cause is as pretty sure it's hormonal but just want it to stop!!!

Try completing cutting out caffeine, works for me.

BettyOBarley · 02/10/2022 20:54

I was going to say iron as mine were terrible when I had really low iron. They went away completely on prescribed iron and then came back a little when I stopped it (although iron levels were normal). I've found taking a daily multi vitamin has helped.

Cut the salt

My gdad has heart issues after the Cjab.

BonnesVacances · 02/10/2022 21:12

I get these and find they're related to caffeine or high histamine foods. I can't drink alcohol at all anymore.

The Covid jab gave me very bad palpitations for about 9 months. I saw a cardiologist who said it was a common reaction and they’d seen loads of people with the same thing. Mine have completely abated now although I have also made a lot of lifestyle changes too - more veg, exercise daily (has abolished moderate anxiety) and decaf coffee but normal tea.

junebirthdaygirl · 02/10/2022 21:22

No coffee..no wine..no coca cola
I had this after COVID. I did find coughing sort of stops it . I read that somewhere and it works. It has eased now. It's a year since l had a bad bout of Covid.

Same here. I'm having ectopic heartbeats and the cardiologist says they could have been caused by the vaccine.

He wouldn't advise for or against the booster as there is a link - I need to weigh up that for myself.

Anyway, in response to the OP - things which minimise them are plenty of sleep, water, low caffeine and alcohol and managing stress. They are harmless but very unpleasant when they happen.

Ecci · 02/10/2022 21:29

Very slow breathing is supposed to help. Try to do long slow breaths and get down to 5 breaths per minute and maintain for 5m. Palpitations are really horrible, I've had then since June when I had COVID. I find the breathing helps for a bit but they always return after a while.

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 02/10/2022 21:30

It is a peri symptom as well, might not be caffeine causing it.

MummyofTw0 · 02/10/2022 21:32

I suffered regularly with palpitations. Thry were debilitating. So scary. I regularly felt i was having a heart attack. Once I had one it would affect me for days, made me intensely tired.

Had lots of tests. Resulted in nothing

Doctor suggested cutting out caffeine.

Boom. Overnight gone

Last time I had one was on holiday when I drank too much coke in a day

Decaff for me everyday now

NessieMcNessface · 02/10/2022 22:08

I’ve suffered on and off for years and I really understand your distress; it can be quite frightening when you have arrhythmias and you feel that no one understands. You may also feel that the doctors don’t believe you if it doesn’t happen over the 24 hours that you’re wearing a tape. I would suggest going back to the doctor to explain the situation; don’t just accept it. If it’s affecting your quality of life then you need help. You may need to be referred to a cardiologist who will do more extensive tests and perhaps try you on a different medication. As others have said it’s seldom sinister but it’s very unpleasant and debilitating.
