Itchy scalp and dandruff

Have never had this until i had dd2 and since then has got worse.
Is very irrating and not very attractive.

Any ideas how to get rid of it?
Or why i have it?

I have even switched to non perfumed shampoo/conditioner.
Have used head and shoulders also but can't use it all the time,my hairdresser said not to.

same here since DD2.

the only thing that has and is working for me is Head&Shoulders, and i've tried it all!

sod the hairdresser, who wants an itchy, flaky scalp?

it can't be any worse than the hairdryer and GHDs i use on my hair, too.

bonkerz · 24/01/2008 20:43

i get mild psoriosis on my face and scalp and it loks awful! With regards the scalp i use elvive intensive anti dandruff. It is the only one that stops the itching and soreness.

Beauregard · 24/01/2008 20:46

Do you think it may be hormone related then Expat?

Yes will try using the Elvive as well as the Head and shoulders then.

i'm sure it's hormone-related, pelvic, because my skin changes during hte month, too.

but my hair since she was born is greasy, with itchy scalp and dandruff.

no matter what i do.

i have to wash it every day or it's a grease pit, but it's itchy and dandruff if no H&S.

but think i'll try the Elvive because it's pretty cheap to try it out.

Try rubbing something oily into the hair and scalp and letting it sit for half an hour before you wash your hair. Olive oil and hemp oil are supposed to be good. I have used this and it worked for me.

Beauregard · 24/01/2008 20:54

Funny you should say that Expat because my hair has to be washed at least every other day because it is also greasy.

Not sure if the olive oil would just make it more greasy.

ooh that hair treatment looks lovely.

mine needs washing every day and my scalp and face flare up just after period so could well be hormone related!
Have been though so many shamppos and the elvive intensive is the only one that has helped.

SofiaAmes · 24/01/2008 20:57

I have the same. H&S daily (I used to only do my hair every other day before itchy outbreak) helps. The other thing that works quite well is Nizoral (get prescription from gp). Also, if it's really bad and hivey like mine, a claritin will help with the itching.
Worst part is getting it in the middle of a lice outbreak at the kids' school (which dd partook in). I have had my head checked for lice (which aren't there because it's hives not lice) two zillion times now!!!

SofiaAmes · 24/01/2008 20:59

Definitely hormonal. Last time I got it this bad was when I was pregnant with dd. Now it's perimenopause. Then next it'll probably be menopause. I am beginning to wish I wasn't female.

Beauregard · 24/01/2008 21:00

ah yes the nits i am constantly paranoid.

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 24/01/2008 21:00

I'm hoping it's the perimenopause.

My entire family has breezed through the menopause and I'm hoping I will, too, and then get my life back!

I'm looking forward to it.

Paranoid that the itching is nits but have checked and it isn't.

Actually why do the schools not have the nit nurse anymore ? as i am finding them in my dd's hair often and i comb with conditioner and nit comb 2-3 times a week.

Was thinking of complaining to the school or am i just a bit obsessed?
