which is very very annoying.

What could it be? Any prolonged soak in the water like that seems to lead to soreness/itching.

i would say, the chlorine irritates your bits when u go swimming, and maybe u should cut out perfumed bath foam/gels etc

I still want to take my children swimming though, so how do I get around this?

could it be the shower gel you use after.
my gym/swimming pool proide shower stuff and it irritates me - so i take my own now.

apart from that, im not sure.

Sounds like your fanjo may be being dried out by the water if it happens in the bath AND the swimming pool. Not really sure what to recommend. If you are perimenopausal you could see the doc for something to increase vaginal secretions?

loopylou6 · 24/01/2008 19:41

im really not sure swim, must be annoying though, is it just the lips that get irratated or inside aswell?

StripeyMamaSpanx · 24/01/2008 19:41

Can you take them to a non-chlorinated pool - salt water, or ionised (or whatever its called)?

MegaLegs · 24/01/2008 19:41

Is it just externally. Could you put some sort of barrier cream (Vaseline, Camillosan) on down there before you swim?

loopylou6 · 24/01/2008 19:43

good idea megalegs, i was gonna say if it was internal, then maybe using a tampon as a barrier might help, but thats reeeeeally not gonna help is it

swim · 24/01/2008 19:46

It's just externally. Good idea with the barrier cream, will try that.

have yiou just got thrush?

swim · 24/01/2008 19:52

Not sure, I had lots of fanjo problems a couple of years ago and even saw a dermatologist at the time, she said it was psoriasis (sp?) and prescribed coal tar creme and steroid creme, which did help for a while. So maybe it's psoriasis again? Maybe I should go and see a doc, but I don't want to (wail)

Get a thrush suppository - can;t hurt. I had it for ages but (oddly) the symtoms were milder and so I didnt think it was that - till I went for a smear and the nurse told me..might be worth a try anyway. As long as you;re not fannyshingles too!

Also had psoriasis down there at some point. very painful. After swimming, the skin gets dryer.

Agree with barrier cream idea pre soak & moisturize after soak.Sesame oil/almond oil applied on damp skin after each bath/shower is good.
Likely you need to get back on some sort of treatment to ease the flare up. Ask your Dr about Vitamin D ointment. Over the years, found it to be the most effective treatment to heal. Coal tar rubbish and steroid so so.

Also, taking omega oil/vit E capsules daily helps a lot. After 3/4 months treatment, all my psoriasis gone.
Evening primrose/starflower oil in high concentration doses from holland and Barrett do the trick.
