Gum disease in pregnancy

Hi all, am looking for some advice and to hear of others' experiences.
I had 'early stages of gum disease' soon after I had my DC, no symptoms but it was picked up at a check up. I had a deep clean and went back yesterday so the dentist could check that the deep clean was sufficient. Coincidentally, over the past few days I've started experiencing a lot of pain on one side of my mouth, primarily around the gums and top teeth at the back so the appointment was very timely. The dentist said I have inflamed gums in that area which is indicative of the gum disease worsening in that area, cleaned the area and has booked me in for another deep clean in a months time (next available appointment).
My main concerns are the amount of pain that I am in at the moment - it felt better very soon after the clean so I am hoping that a weekend of gargling salt water, using mouthwash after meals, flossing and brushing well will really help but I'm worried that it won't! At the moment, I'm managing by holding an ice pack on my cheek and taking paracetamol but from googling, I feel like my pain is disproportionate to what I should be feeling at this stage of gum disease. I am also pregnant again so am limited in pain relief that I can take and have that to consider too.

Has anyone else experienced gum disease and found it really painful? What remedies helped? And did anyone experience this in pregnancy - if so, how did you manage?

Thank you 😊

I'm having problems with it at the moment. When it's bad, the pain makes me tired and grumpy but I wouldn't need an icepack, I don't think.

A good deep clean and then keeping them clean is exactly what you need. Especially the flossing, it seems to be the crap in between my teeth that causes the problem.

Thank you for replying and I'm sorry you're experiencing this too! I can't work out if I'm just being a bit of a baby about the pain or whether I have an infection or something. Will see how this weekend goes with using interdental brushes etc between brushing with my electric toothbrush.
