Is this cancer? Talk me down.

I've messaged my Dr and am waiting to hear back for an appointment but in the meantime I'm worrying myself stupid.

So a few months ago I went to the doctor about a persistent sore throat on swallowing. I was examined and tested and found to have an infection. After ten days of antibiotics my throat was no better and it was still painful to swallow, not really painful but noticeable and annoying. I was fast-tracked to ENT where I was scanned, camera put down, examined blah blah blah and nothing was found. I was sent away with a print out of exercise as apparently in most cases if nothing is seen the cause is muscular-skeletal. Eventually the pain ebbed off but was still occasionally bothering me. And then yesterday I realised it was back with a vengeance. I had a poke around with a torch and a mirror and can see an ulcer at the back of my throat, not on the tonsil but to tooth side at the bottom. It is white and black. Could this be cancer, or is it just a co-incidental case of tonsillitis?

If you were found to have an infection then it’s unlikely it was cancer and it’s far more likely that the infection still hasn’t cleared? But then I’m not a doctor. I had a weird lump under my arm that turned out to be an infection but the GP even made me see a consultant. Antibiotics don’t always clear things up and if it’s viral then they are useless.

Also if you were seen by an ENT they would’ve known already if it was cancer so I would tick that off as a no.

It was a strep infection before, and I had no signs of an infection apart from the sore throat when swallowing. But thanks for answering I'm getting my self in a right tizz here.

Anyway, my own doctor has not replied yet ( I should explain I am not UK based so we don't have the horrendous waiting times that are common with the NHS). I've gone ahead and called the number for the ENT specialist as he did say to come back to him if things changed or it was still a problem after two or three months. I feel things have changed so hopefully I won't get into trouble. I explained the situation to the receptionist and she has asked if I can come in at 10:40 today for an acute appointment. Which is unbelievable... I'm probably going to feel like a complete time waster but am so thankful some one is going to have a look and see what it is.

Well I am very much relieved to report that the lovely ENT chap had a look and diagnosed a tonsil stone. He''s removed it, but says he thinks there might be more. I'm left with strict instructions to try and remove any further ones myself with earbuds, and if they continue to be a problem it might be surgical removal.
Geez, I was worried. I am a professional singer and my voice is everything.
