Stubborn Stye won’t go away

I’ve had a stye for about 6 weeks now, I’ve been putting a warm compress everyday 2-3 times and used eye drops. But it’s still there!
My eyelid was quite swollen but now it’s a small bump.
I wear contacts but obviously now I’m wearing my glasses.

I spoke with my optician and they have suggested the above and to carry on doing this.

Has anyone had a stubborn stye which wouldn’t disappear?
how long did it take?

Thanks for reading!

Local. They put eye drops in and then after a few minutes inject the eyelid with anaesthetic. Didn’t feel a thing.

@cassgate please can you share where you went to have it operated?

@cassgate thank you so much!
Would you recommend them based on your experience?

Yes, definitely. I had a consultation first and it was confirmed I had a chalazion, was offered immediate removal there and then but it was my birthday and I was going to the theatre later that evening. I booked for a month or so later. Procedure was straight forward and not painful just a bit strange having your eyelid turned inside out. Wore an eye patch for 24 hours afterwards which made me feel a bit disoriented at first but I got used to it pretty quickly. After 24 hours eye patch came off and eye was just a bit puffy and red but the chalazion was gone. Had to put antibiotic ointment in for a week afterwards. It has been nearly a year and no further issues.

@cassgate Thank you so much for sharing your experience, it's very useful to know!
Can please also ask, what made you go for the private consultation? Did you try the conventional therapy of hot compress etc for a while? I've had mine pop up a week ago and I've been doing the hot compress 4-6 times a day for 10minutes but noticing no improvement. Just wondering when I should seek further treatment. Thank you!

Mine appeared while on holiday. Initially, I thought it was a stye as it was sore so didn’t do anything as thought it would go on its own. The soreness disappeared but the hard lump remained. After about 3 months I went to the opticians as was worried it was something sinister. The optician told me to hot compress it but said if it didn’t go I could have it surgically removed but would likely have to go private as nhs wait times would likely be years. I compressed it for about 4 months but think because I had left it so long initially it was just too big. One day I just thought enough was enough, it had got quite big and people had started to ask me what it was. I then looked into private removal and had the consultation and removal within 4 weeks of deciding to do it. Haven’t had any problems since. Hope this helps.
