New breast asymmetry

I had breast cancer 18 years ago and last had a mammogram 18 months ago. I’ve noticed recently that the other breast (ie the one that didn’t have cancer) seems to have got a bit bigger. There’s always been a bit of asymmetry but it seems more pronounced now. I’m 53 and menopausal so it’s probably that, but can new asymmetry be a sign of breast cancer?

Have you changed weight at all?

Luredbyapomegranate · 18/09/2022 19:10

I have never heard that but would get it checked out for sure.

Yes, there’s definitely some menopausal weight gain!

Your treated breast will be somewhat fibrosed / “frozen in time” following surgery and radiotherapy. It is probably a little weight gain / age related droop on your untreated side. You can get a mammogram to check your breasts are healthy - just ask your GP to refer you?

Thank you. That’s reassuring and makes sense. I gave my mammogram booked in a couple of week’s time.
