Head injury and recovery time - any one help?

My dad was in a car accident on friday evening - he was in the road and tripped (he'd been to his mates funeral and was 'slightly merry'), car swerved to avoid him but delt him a 'glancing blow'. He was deeply unconcious for about 12 hours. He has a fractured skull above his left temple and a small cut.

Since he has come round he has no memory of the past month, as far as he is aware christmas and new year haven't happened. More worringly his parents are still alive (they have been dead for over 10 years) and the cat is still alive (she's been dead for 2 years). He can recognise his friends and family but get confused very easily. He has moments of lucidity the lapses into nonsence. Anyone have any similar experience with this sort of thing? I would be greatful of any advice.

i lost my memory for about 3 hrs when i got concussion and was a bit hazy for a few days. may just have some swelling that needs to resolve

That's what the doctors said about the swelling, but my mother is besides herself! It's been very dificult to get any answers off the medical staff at the hospital as they are so busy. He's really tired all the time and hasn't left the bed even to sit up in the chair since.

Will try to get the arnica tablets

Will it stop him calling the nurses 'witches' and the doctors 'quacks'! Can I still give it to him if he is still in hospital? Suppose I could sneek it in... they would never know.

My GP would approve. I know personally how good the cream is on skin bruising, use it on the kids alot. The doctors aren't giving him any medication apart from parcetamol they say these thing take time but I have a feeling this would speed things up. Thanks for that, I've told my mother and she's off to buy some tomorrow.
