Any advice ? I've had it on and off for 15 years but the past 7/8 months it's constant ranging from a niggling ache to agony. I can't stand for very long, I can't sit with out proper back support. I can't lift anything or dance. I have had physio regularly for years, I do the exercises twice a day. I do yoga and Pilates weekly. I tried a chiropractor and had five sessions but I couldn't afford to keep going, plus it didn't seem to help and I hated it. I do hot and cold. I walk daily. Is there anything I could be doing or do I have to accept it's never going away. Thanks

My brother was given exercises to do and they cured him. He couldn't even walk and within days, he was up and about. He saw an nhs physio who examined him and gave him the exercises.
I, on the other hand, ended up having to have a spine fusion. So I guess it depends what wrong with you as to what the best treatment is.

Does your area allow you to self-refer to MSK Physio? Check online either via your GP’s website or the local NHS primary care trust website (or just google).

I’m awake with similar, so sympathies.

The Mackenzie method saved me. You can buy a book on Amazon. Many many repetitions of lying in stomach, up on hands to make back into a curve.

Like this…went to a physio who had an electrical table that did hundreds of compressions for me in the early days of recovery. Now I do myself whenever I feel twingy. Has been years since I had pain and it was awful with sciatica.

@blisstwins the McKenzie method physio exercises are the ones that have been recommended by the NHS MSK Physios that I have seen (and continue to see). I agree they are very good.

But ... I seem to make improvement, and then there are days where I wake up in the early hours and I'm back where I started again. The nerve pain and weirdness (like a cold burning) in my feet is bloody unbearable some days. Some days my knees seem to decide not to work.

In despair I am paying for a private MRI of my lower back.

It take a very long time for symptoms to resolve. I used quite high doses of ibruprofen (Advil—I am not British) but the thing that turned it around in terms of healing was a pretty short course of high dose steroids coupled with Mackenzie. I did the mackensie excersizes A LOT in the beginning including the doctors office twice a week for over an hour each sessions. Then I did on my own several times a day and still arch my back backwards while standing quite often and do maintenance. I am ok and I remember thinking I would rather die than endure that pain for the rest of my life. You have to be patient….do the exercises and ask about steroids. I am so sorry. It is horrendous.

autienotnaughty · 16/09/2022 08:42

Thank you will look the method up.

How often a day do you do exercises?

Just be careful with exercises. My brother in law did the exercises that really helped him. If I had done the same exercises, it would have made my situation worse.
You really need to find out what is causing the pain. A slipped disk, a herniated disk, a cracked vertebrae.
I spent a fortune on chiropractors but they could never have helped because only a fusion could sort my problem.
I'd definitely suggest going to your gp and asking to be referred to a physio so they can examine you and give you exercises. If those doesn't work, ask to have an mri.
