Asthma flare up with no inhaler

Just wondering if anyone has any tips for relieving asthma symptoms, my asthma is usually handled really well but I forgot to order my inhaler. I've ordered it today with 24hr delivery but until it comes, I need some way of relieving the tightness in my chest and my wheezing.

Go to your pharmacy. They can issue an inhaler as an emergency supply.

As above. You can buy from a pharmacy if you've been there before and they have you on record. I've done this for my child. Or go to a walk in. Don't suffer.

I've been down this afternoon and they needed my doctor to send a prescription through. My doctor wanted me to go into the doctors and I'm 8 hours from home, so he told me he wanted me to go to A&E but i don't want to waste their time, so I have to wait until tomorrow.

Breathing steam can help - but don't scald yourself!

Run a basin/shower with very very hot water in a closed bathroom and breath in the steam

if you get worse, go to A&E

Just had a super hot shower, and it helped while I was in there but it feels the same again now. The doctor thinks it was MIL dog that caused the flare up, so we're going to stay at a hotel tonight. I'll only go to the hospital if I think I really need too, cause I'd feel bad leaving DP with his two boys as-well as our NB in a hotel room. Thank you for the advice, it did help so im going to get a bowl or something to use the steam from that.

You could try taking an antihistamine bought from the supermarket. But you should be able to get an inhaler from a pharmacy without a prescription under emergency supply.

Black coffee
strong black tea would probably work too
caffiene can help.

sugar is ok, dairy is not the best thing to add during an asthma attack.

OP please go to A and E. Asthma is a killer. When I was young my friend from school died going on a walk and picnic without her inhaler and in those days no mobile phones. Her brother ran back to get help but once ambulance called and arrived she was dead. I am asthmatic and always take my inhaler everywhere. I keep a spare new one in my car too. Where are you in country OP? Maybe someone has a spare unused one.

No, that's not right, they don't need Dr to prescribe. Present yourself at a pharmacy and tell them you are experiencing asthma symptoms right now they can sell you one.

I had to do this at Boots in Euston Station once. They obviously had no record of me and certainly no presciption but I presented myself as an emergency.

kirby2000 · 13/09/2022 20:43

I thought that, but they told me otherwise.
I don't even know what you'd do with a inhaler that makes them hard to get
