24 hour ECG results help

Does anyone know if a GP will review a 24 hour ECG result, or do they send them to be looked at by a specialist/ someone else?

I think it's usually a GP but if there's anything untoward, you'd probably then be referred to a cardiologist

Thank you. Do you know if the would just send them straight to a cardiologist without telling me?

I called for my results and it just says they have been sent somewhere

Mine went back to the hospital and then the results were reviewed by the cardiologist who then sent me a letter with the results.

needlesandpinns · 09/09/2022 12:08

Oh thank you, were they sent because there was something wrong? Or just to be read?

Sorry I mean the holter monitor was to be returned to the hospital as it was them who had fitted it not my docs..its maybe different for different trusts.

My doctor had carried out an ecg in surgery then from the results he read he referred me to cardiology. In the meantime I had another episode of breathlessness etc and was told to go to hospital when I called the docs. They then sorted out the 24 hour ecg for a few weeks time but I then got an appointment with the cardiologists the doctor has referred me to and he said the ecg from the docs was fine. Two weeks later I had the ecg fitted and the results from that were then read by a different cardiologist and we found out a few issues I have.

If yours was through your doctor then he will likely read the results and decide whether to refer to cardiology who will have access to the results and may refer for further tests or make an appointment to see you.

Thank you, that sounds a bit different from mine.

My gp requested one. When I called for the results the receptionist said it had been sent off.

Bit worried 😟

Mine was reviewed by the GP, then sent to cardiologist who said it was fine. The automated report showed something off but not a problem apparently.

I could see mine on the test results section of the NHS app - have you looked there?

Nejnej2 · 09/09/2022 14:31

I had one, and it had a report from the hospital. So the holter was sent off after I had it done I guess?

needlesandpinns · 09/09/2022 15:46

Thank you both.

Good idea about the app, I had a look but I haven't set up to have results like that available. I will do it for future reference.

Just grasping for reassurance!

Sometimes the report is vague and next steps not clear. In this case it may be sent for a second opinion from a cardiologist.

EveryoneButSam · 09/09/2022 16:18

Mine was reviewed by the GP who identified a problem and referred me to a cardiologist. After several months waiting for an appt expecting to keel over with a heart attack any minute the cardiologist said that the GP had read it wrong and everything was fine. So even if yours was sent off by a concerned GP it's not necessarily bad!

needlesandpinns · 09/09/2022 16:30

@EveryoneButSam I really feel for you. That must of been so stressful!
