How worried should I be? Its been about 3.5 months.
When I'm googling about it I'm getting worried. Obviously I know the golden rule is never to Google these things but it seems quite the consensus that you're not supposed to wait once it's been there a while.

Would definitely advise seeing a dentist over a GP. Get it checked for sure.

mathanxiety · 08/09/2022 18:24

Your GP needs to know that the receptionist has taken it upon herself to decide what's an urgent case and what's not.

I don't want to catastrophize this but my niece never smoked, drink and is vegetarian. The first two dentists she saw told her she was too young and didn't have and risk factors for oral cancer. She finally made an appointment with an oral surgeon who finally took her seriously. I'm so glad he is getting it looked at.

Managed to find a private dentist to see dh tomorrow. He's my everything, he never takes his health seriously. I'm so so worried now. Thanks for the advice.

Thanks I will get him to book the dentist. I didn't realise a dentist could refer. Our GP receptionist said as it's been there that long it's not urgent so have to wait weeks for appointment.

It most definitely is urgent. I work in dentistry and any ulcers that have not disappeared after two weeks we send under the two week wait for a referral.

beanbagyellow · 08/09/2022 23:26

Thank you @PinkButtercups i can only hope it's ok now. Very annoyed at our GP situation but actually think in this case a dentist is better placed to help.

Yes always a dentist for any mouth problems. You need to make a complaint actually, very dangerous misinformation they are spreading about.

Also the two week wait we send for most referrals even though if we think it's nothing but just to rule anything out.

I know you'll be worried but a lot come back as not what you think it is. All the best.

@PinkButtercups I appreciate your advice will update later on what gets said.

Very worried. It's just us two and young dc. No other family. Trying not to show my panic!

PinkButtercups · 11/09/2022 11:57

How did your DH get on?

fallfallfall · 08/09/2022 15:09

Even a dentist is able to diagnose oral cancer. Of course I’d be concerned, I’d be concerned after 1 week as the mouth heals very quickly.

It's not "even" a dentist can diagnose oral cancer. It's their job and an important part of it.

Any symptom like this is worrying and needs to be seen urgently under the cancer protocol.

momtoboys · 13/09/2022 22:32

I hope all is OK with your DH.

Tigger83 · 30/09/2022 21:37

Thinking of you op. Hope all is ok
